It wasn't outright malice, but rather a lack of empathy, a thoughtless comment, or an act of oversight that felt like a betrayal. The 'friendly' aspect makes it even harder to process because you're left grappling with confusion – how could someone who cares about me cause such pain? This internal conflict is what makes friendly fire so insidious; it undermines the very foundation of safety and support you expect from those close to you. Understanding the meaning of 'friendly fire' in this interpersonal sense helps us recognize that it often stems from various sources, not always ill intent. Sometimes it’s a case of miscommunication, where words are misinterpreted, or intentions aren't clearly conveyed.
