Almost couldn’t rent this cute scooter!
There were many reviews on social media regarding rental of this electric scooter. Many mentioned that having an IDP with car license do not qualify for scooter rental. But I manage to find 1-2 reviews saying that they manage to rent them without the right license. So here I go, taking my chances and hop on a day trip to Udo island to debunk this.
Udo island was just 15min ferry ride away. After disembarking, I went asking for some of the rental stores and true enough, many turn me down for lacking IDP scooter licence. Until I reach this shop! Swipe to the end to know which shop that allows me to rent them. It’s on the right side of the jetty. Word of caution: no Insurance will be provided if you met with accident. Meaning you will bear the whole damage. I’m willing to take the rest for this rare opportunity so here I am, assuring them that I’ll go really slow. Spent about 1.5hours there for 1 round of the island . Short pit stop for the famous peanut ice cream, some photos and not forgetting. Grilled squid topped with cheese. Had some peanuts on the side too and they are really yummy. 100% recommended to do this for the cute escooter experience.

However, some places may be more flexible, just as I experienced. During your ride, don’t miss stopping by local vendors selling Udo’s famous peanut ice cream — a delicious, refreshing treat after some time on the road. Sampling grilled squid topped with cheese is another local favorite that adds to the culinary adventure on the island. Always remember to wear safety gear, even if insurance isn’t provided by the rental shop. Riding carefully and driving slowly, especially if unfamiliar with the vehicle or terrain, will enhance your safety. From my personal experience, renting a scooter without the proper license can be challenging but possible if you find the right shop. Exploring Udo Island this way offers a wonderful blend of adventure, delicious local food, and stunning scenery that’s well worth the effort.
