⭐ Review: War of the Greedy Witches Vol. 1 & 2
📖 Vol. 1 – ★★★★☆ ½ (4.5/5)
I loved the introduction of the characters each one is beautifully designed and unique. The historical aspect is amazing. Seeing women from history reimagined as witches with powers that fit their personalities/legends is such a cool concept. The ending of Vol. 1 threw me off a bit. The main character’s “power of desire” felt kind of lame at first. I wasn’t sure if it would amount to much.

Then book two completely changed my mind her ability absolutely blew me away when it was revealed in action. The fights are intense, creative, and so well-drawn. They balance brutality and beauty in a way that keeps me hooked.
I love how each duel really showcases the different witches’ strengths and personalities.
This series has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s wild, stylish, and full of energy. I can’t wait for Vol. 3 and honestly, I’m really hoping this gets an anime adaptation one day. The fights would look incredible animated!
Okay, so I just HAVE to talk more about 'War of the Greedy Witches' because this series has absolutely blown me away! After devouring volumes 1 and 2, I'm genuinely hooked. The concept alone is pure genius: taking legendary historical women, from fierce warriors to infamous figures, and reimagining them as incredibly powerful witches, each with abilities perfectly tailored to their legends or personalities. It's like a history lesson got an epic, magical, and super violent upgrade! One of the biggest draws for me is the character design and how they've brought these icons to life. For example, seeing Jeanne d'Arc, 'THE MIRACULOUS HERO OF FRANCE,' not just as a figure from the past, but as a witch hearing a divine command to 'DESTROY THE ENGLISH FORCES,' really makes you see her strength in a new light. Then there's the terrifying presence of Agrat Bat Mahlat, who boldly declares, 'I AM THE QUEEN OF THE DEMONS.' The sheer confidence and power radiating from these characters, even just in their introductions, is captivating. And let's not forget the 'WITCH OF BLOOD' herself, Elizabeth Bathory. Her portrayal is chillingly fascinating. The way she smiles elegantly one moment and then, with a sinister, wide-eyed expression, states her purpose '...IS TO TORMENT' – it truly captures her infamous legend. On the other side, we have the incredibly strong Tomoe Gozen, a female warrior in traditional Japanese attire, whose determination shines through every panel. But where this manga truly excels is in its battles. Oh my goodness, the fights are just next level! They perfectly capture the essence of 'A BATTLE TO REALIZE ONE'S DESIRES,' as the Walpurgis tournament unfolds. Each duel is a masterclass in showcasing the witches' unique strengths and personalities, balancing brutal action with incredible artistry. The way Elizabeth Bathory gets utterly thrilled during her clash with Tomoe Gozen, exclaiming, 'THAT FACE... IT'S THE BEST OF THE BEST!' and later, 'HOW WONDERFUL! SO BEAU-TIFUL' even as Tomoe is blood-splattered and fighting for her life, really highlights the dark, twisted beauty of these encounters. The artists manage to make every blow, every magical burst, feel impactful and visually stunning. It’s hard to look away! Seriously, if you're looking for a manga with a fresh concept, unforgettable characters, and some of the most intense, stylish, and creative fights you'll ever see, you absolutely need to pick up 'War of the Greedy Witches.' I'm already counting down the days until Vol. 3 comes out, and I'm still holding out hope for that anime adaptation – just imagine these scenes animated! It would be epic!
