There’s also a beautiful moment that describes braids forming a map, it’s one of my favorite details.
Just a note: the book does address the horrors of the slave trade. There are scenes and flashbacks involving kidnapping, death, and violence. It’s not overly graphic, but if those themes are triggering, I’d recommend approaching it carefully or skipping it.
