First of all… this book is so funny. I genuinely felt like I was watching someone I know personally.
It was also wild because I was originally going to school for zoology, and then Dory Ann Valentine shows up as a zoologist after my own heart. I immediately connected with her.
Everyone keeps talking about how spicy this book is, but are y’all actually reading it for the plot? Because this book has LORE.
There are revolutions brewing, a war happening, ridiculous villains, and so much fun worldbuilding. Yes, Dory gets kidnapped and ends up with two incredibly attractive alien love interests, but this isn’t just a “freak-off” book. It genuinely feels like you’re watching a sci-fi rom-com movie in your head.
Now… my one complaint.
The first two spicy scenes completely threw me off. Hearing the word cock (and not talking about a chicken 😭) almost yanked me right out of the story. More than that, the timing felt so random. We’re lost on an alien planet, running for our lives, trying not to die… and suddenly everybody’s making out?
Y’all. Keep your pants on for five minutes. 😂
The later scenes worked much better for me because the relationships had time to develop. Those made sense in my head. The first two just came out of nowhere. (5 moments, ch 6, 8, 12, 19 and ch 22)
Honestly though, once I got past that, I had an amazing time. The dialogue is hilarious, the banter is fantastic, and I found myself laughing through most of the book. I’ve been going through a lot lately, and this was exactly the kind of lighthearted, ridiculous adventure I needed. It was such a breath of fresh air.
Also, shout out to the audiobook narrator because they absolutely nailed the comedy.
