What is zen?
The very simple definition of Zen is:
"Training the mind to live with the present with simplicity, calm and awake."
Zen (Zen) is an approach to Mahayana Buddhism that emphasizes prayer practices, especially meditation (Zazen), rather than rote study or ritual worship.
Zen's highlights:
• ✅ Simple, not complicated
• ✅ does not emphasize texts; emphasizes "direct experience."
• ✅ with breath, bird sounds, rain sounds, etc., can be dharma.
• ✅ There is no fixed answer, but let yourself know through consideration.
• ✅ often use "puzzles" (Koan) to knock ideas out of the box.
Zen concept example:
"Before enlightenment, I scooped water and cut wood.
After enlightenment, I also scooped water, cut wood.
But I woke up and knew it was all dharma. "
Zen is conscious of the present, not the past or the future to deceive yourself.
