Witches rock

Located within Clearcreek Metro park in Rockbridge, Ohio is a very obvious rock formation leaning ominously over the roadway.

The rock that I have always called “Witches Rock” but also known as “Leaning Rock” has a very peculiar legend behind it.

The legend says witches and cult members gather in this area to preform rituals and sacrifices. All throughout my teenage years it was said that if the sticks that lay against the rock are up it is safe to pass through, and if they aren’t, be very weary when traveling.

I have definitely had my fair share of being spooked with and by my friends taking night drives through the dark woods always trying to see which way the sticks were positioned. Of course they are usually up against the rock.

This legend has probably been told many different ways, but this is the version I grew up with, and even now in my adulthood taking night drives through the area I still get chills. Ckearcreek Metro park is awfully beautiful during the day, but very dark and creepy at night.
