Wedding + Charcuterie = Best Decision Ever

It might be a little bit of an exaggeration to say the charcuterie board table at my wedding was my favorite part of the evening… but it’s not that much of an exaggeration 😂😂

I’m a huge fan of crackers, cheeses and all things charcuterie, so it was a no-brainer for me to have a spread at my wedding. My guests absolutely loved it as well.

I know people say as a bride you don’t really get to eat at your wedding; and with all the talking to people and excitement of the event, that’s kind of true. However, I had someone grab me a plate of charcuterie and that was the perfect thing to munch on!

Imagine creamy brie, sharp cheddar, and a nutty gouda, all beautifully arranged in a cheese platter. Don't forget the cured meats! Prosciutto, salami slices, and spicy coppa add incredible flavor and texture. The close-up shots of these vibrant charcuterie tables always look so tempting, and that's precisely the vibe you want to create. Beyond the staples, fresh fruits are a must. Grapes, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and even exotic blood orange slices not only add beautiful color and freshness but also offer a sweet counterpoint to the savory meats and cheeses. Olives, cornichons, and nuts like almonds or pistachios fill in the gaps and provide extra crunch. For accompaniments, an assortment of crackers and some crusty baguette slices are essential. I also made sure to include some sweet elements like honey (a cute honey dipper is a nice touch!) and fruit jams. Presentation truly makes a difference. You want the board to look abundant and inviting – almost overflowing! Start by placing larger items like cheese wedges and bowls of olives, then drape the cured meats artfully around them. Fill in the spaces with clusters of fruits, nuts, and crackers. Think about different textures and heights to make it visually exciting. My caterer, The Art of Grazing, did an incredible job making it look like a work of art, showcasing a rich variety of snacks for guests. When planning for a wedding, consider the logistics. How much should you prepare? A good rule of thumb for appetizers is around 2-3 ounces of cheese and meat per person. For a large reception, having an abundant spread ensures everyone gets to enjoy it without feeling rushed. Also, think about keeping everything fresh, especially if it's an outdoor wedding or a long cocktail hour. Ice packs underneath the serving trays can help, or you can opt to replenish smaller portions throughout the event. Finally, don't forget dietary needs. While my board was a general crowd-pleaser, for those with allergies or specific diets, it's a kind gesture to have a small, separate board with labeled options. Whether you decide to DIY your charcuterie board for a smaller gathering like an engagement party or bridal shower, or hire a professional like I did for a large wedding, it's an hors d'oeuvres option that will impress your guests and provide a delightful grazing experience. Trust me, it’s a decision you won't regret!
