Review for Crescent City Book 1

⭐️:4.9 🌶️2

She got me again. Just when I thought I didn't like this book or character, everything changed, and it happened again. I hate parts of this book, but they just make me love the great part more. Awesome storytelling.

This book is a huge undertaking close to 800 pages, of which I hated the first 100 pages. I could not see the "party princesses" being the heroes at the same level as Celaena. What I can say is that nothing in this book is window dressing. Everything leads to something. The last 150 pages clinched this book for me, and I could not put it down.

The future is magic and science at two sides of the same coin. A world where supernatural is normal, but there is a hierarchy. Everyone knows their place or else. That is apart from Bryce and her best friend Danika. They do whatever and whoever they want.

When things go wrong, they have each other's back and Hel with any alpholes who say otherwise. Then it all changes.

Very few people in this book are who I thought they were. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I get hit with a twist. This book is an incredible story that I can't wait to see what happens next.

... Read moreMany readers, myself included, find the start of Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood a bit overwhelming. The detailed world-building and introduction to countless factions and characters can feel like a lot to take in. I remember thinking, "Is this really for me?" when I was only 100 pages into this massive Sarah J. Maas novel. But my advice? Don't give up! Just as the original review said, everything in this book serves a purpose. The seemingly slow start is actually laying crucial groundwork for the epic twists and turns that follow. What makes this book so captivating once you get past the initial hump? For me, it was the incredible blend of magic and technology. Maas crafts a world where ancient Fae power coexists with modern tech, creating a unique urban fantasy setting. The hierarchy among species, from angels to shifters, adds so many layers to the political intrigue. And let’s not forget the characters – Bryce Quinlan, initially perceived as a "party princess," quickly evolves into a deeply complex and resilient protagonist. Her journey, alongside her best friend Danika, and later other key figures, is truly at the heart of the story. Speaking of the book, have you seen the stunning Crescent City book cover? The golden crescent moon, the fierce woman's face, and the raven are so iconic and perfectly capture the dark, magical essence of *House of Earth and Blood*. It's almost a promise of the adventure inside! The original review highlighted the last 150 pages, and I couldn't agree more. The pacing accelerates dramatically, and all those seemingly disparate threads begin to weave together into a breathtaking climax. The "nothing is window dressing" sentiment is so true – every minor detail, every casual conversation, often holds significance later on. If you're looking for a fantasy book that challenges you and rewards you with intricate plots, unexpected betrayals, and powerful friendships, Crescent City Book 1 is definitely worth the commitment. It's a journey from initial skepticism to absolute obsession, a true testament to Sarah J. Maas's storytelling prowess. Don't go into it expecting a quick read; prepare for an immersive experience that will leave you wanting more. Many readers, myself included, have found themselves completely engrossed by the time they reach the end, eager for the next installment. It's a unique blend of mystery, romance, and high fantasy that keeps you guessing until the very last page.
