This was such a good read. I’m a fan of Marcus Hawke and how he writes. I’ve only read two books from him but both were a good time. Honestly, I do like Grey Noise more but The Axe Remembers was still really good. Thank you so much Marcus for the ARC.

... Read moreHey fellow bookworms! So glad you're here checking out my thoughts on Marcus Hawke's latest, "The Axe Remembers." I've noticed some of you might be looking for "Marcus Redwood" and while that's not quite the name of this author, if you're a fan of spine-tingling horror and psychological thrillers, then Marcus Hawke is definitely an author you need on your radar! Let me tell you why "The Axe Remembers" is worth picking up, especially if you're drawn to dark, atmospheric reads like I am. As my review mentioned, I gave "The Axe Remembers" a solid 4 stars. What really stands out about Hawke's writing, and especially in this book, is his incredible ability to build atmosphere. You know that feeling when you're reading a book and you can almost feel the chill in the air and the rustle of leaves around you? That's exactly what you get here. The striking cover itself, with its prominent axe design set against a dark, ominous forest, perfectly captures the mood within the pages. It's not just a visual; it truly reflects the deep, unsettling dread that permeates the story, making you feel as if you're right there, lost in the shadows. If you're into tales where the environment plays as much a character as the people, creating a sense of claustrophobic isolation amidst nature, you're absolutely in for a treat. It really taps into that primal fear of the unknown lurking just beyond the tree line. For those of you who might have read "Grey Noise" (which I personally loved a tiny bit more, but it's a close call!), you'll find "The Axe Remembers" maintains Hawke's signature blend of suspense and sharp character insights. While "Grey Noise" might have leaned into a slightly different kind of psychological terror, "The Axe Remembers" delivers a more visceral, almost folkloric dread, deeply rooted in its setting. It's the kind of story that makes you look twice at shadows in the woods and question every creak and groan not coming from your own house. Hawke has a knack for crafting narratives that pull you in from the first page and don't let go until the very last, often leaving you with a lingering sense of unease that I absolutely adore. His stories aren't just about cheap jump scares; they delve into the darker aspects of human nature and the terrifying secrets that can hide in plain sight – or in this case, within a secluded, potentially cursed forest. If you're searching for authors who can masterfully weave suspense with genuine horror, creating worlds that feel both familiar and utterly terrifying, then Marcus Hawke is your guy. He consistently delivers thrilling reads that keep you guessing and your heart pounding. So, if you're after a horror book that truly captures the essence of a chilling, forest-bound mystery, and you've been curious about authors like 'Marcus Redwood,' please give Marcus Hawke's 'The Axe Remembers' a try. It’s a captivating read that might just become your next favorite dark thriller. Trust me, you won't regret getting lost in this one!
