... Read moreHey everyone! So, you've probably seen me in my full 'gothed' glory, but today I wanted to share something a little different – my 'un-gothed' look! It's a question I get asked a lot: 'What do you look like without all the dark makeup?' And honestly, it's a side of me I love to embrace just as much.
For me, being 'gothed' isn't just about the makeup; it's a lifestyle and an aesthetic I truly adore. But sometimes, life calls for a different kind of vibe. Whether it's for work, meeting family, or just wanting a lighter, more relaxed feel, having an everyday makeup routine that's a contrast to my usual black lipstick and dramatic eyeliner is super important. It doesn't mean I'm abandoning my goth roots – it just means I'm versatile and love exploring different sides of myself!
Transitioning from a dark, intricate goth look to something more natural might seem daunting, but it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it. My main goal for an 'un-gothed' face is to enhance my features without heavy colors. I usually start with a good skincare routine – moisturizer, SPF, maybe a primer – which is crucial for any look, really! Then, I opt for a light-to-medium coverage foundation or even just a tinted moisturizer to even out my skin tone, focusing on a fresh, dewy finish rather than a stark matte one. I might use a bit of concealer for any blemishes or under-eye circles, blending it seamlessly.
For eyes, I swap out my intense black liner for a soft brown pencil or just a touch of mascara to define my lashes. Instead of dark, smoky eyeshadows, I opt for warm neutrals – think soft browns, peaches, or even a shimmery champagne on the lid. These shades open up my eyes without making them feel too bare or dramatic. And brows? I just fill them in naturally with a brow pencil or powder, nothing too bold, keeping them soft and feathery.
Lips are where I see the biggest transformation. Gone are the deep purples, blues, and blacks! For my everyday 'un-gothed' look, I reach for nude lip glosses, a peachy-pink tint, or even just a hydrating lip balm. It adds a touch of color and completes the softer vibe perfectly. I also make sure to add a little cream blush to bring some natural flush back to my face, often something I skip when I'm fully 'gothed' with a more stark complexion. A subtle highlight on the cheekbones can also add that fresh glow.
It’s interesting how people react to my 'un-gothed' appearance. Some don't even recognize me at first! But it's all part of expressing myself. I also tend to wear simpler hairstyles – maybe just down, or a casual braid, instead of my more elaborate 'gothed' styles. The beauty of personal style is that you don't have to pick just one. I genuinely love being able to switch between my dramatic goth persona and my softer, everyday self. Both are authentic reflections of who I am, and both styles make me feel confident in different ways.
So, if you're someone who identifies strongly with the 'gothed' aesthetic but feels a bit unsure about venturing into an 'un-gothed' look, I encourage you to try it! It’s liberating to show different facets of your personality and challenge perceptions. Plus, it's a great way to use different products and experiment with new styles. It's still me, just a different shade of me, and that's perfectly okay. What are your thoughts on having different makeup styles for different moods or occasions? I'd love to hear your experiences with 'un-gothed' transformations!
