Walking into my first-ever influencer networking event, I was a mix of nerves and excitement! For so long, I'd dreamed of attending one of these, seeing all the amazing creators and brands interact. Brands are always on the lookout for authentic voices, not just massive follower counts. Sometimes, those 'cringy videos' or passion projects with low engagement can actually land you incredible opportunities, so keep creating! Before You Go: Preparation is Key! Once you get that coveted invite, the real work begins. Preparation can make or break your experience at an influencer networking event. Here’s what I did: Research, Research, Research: Find out which brands and fellow creators will be attending. This helps you identify who you want to connect with. I looked up some of the potential brands (like Tula for skincare or Ergobaby for lifestyle, just as examples of the variety you might see) to understand their products and campaigns. Craft Your Elevator Pitch: You'll meet a lot of people! Have a concise, engaging way to introduce yourself, your niche, and what makes your content unique. Practice it so it sounds natural, not rehearsed. Digital & Physical Assets: Make sure your social media profiles are polished. Consider having digital business cards (a QR code to your Linktree or media kit works wonders!) or even traditional ones. You want to make it easy for people to remember and follow up with you. Outfit Choice: Dress professionally but comfortably, and in a way that truly represents your brand. You'll be on your feet, possibly taking photos, so comfort is key, but you also want to make a great first impression. During the Event: Maximize Your Time! An influencer networking event is a golden opportunity. Here’s how I tried to make the most of it: Network Authentically: Don't just collect business cards. Engage in genuine conversations. Ask brands about their goals and how you might align. Ask other creators about their journey. Everyone is there to connect, so be open and friendly. Engage with Products: Many events have displays where you can try products. Take advantage! This is a great way to learn about new offerings and can provide natural talking points with brand representatives. Sometimes there are even fun elements like voting for your favorite influencer or chances to win GRAND PRIZES! which adds to the excitement. Content Creation on the Spot: While networking is primary, don't forget you're a content creator! Discreetly take photos or videos of the venue, products, and even quick chats (with permission!) for your own social media. This shows you're active and engaged. After the Event: The Follow-Up! Attending the event is only half the battle. The follow-up is crucial for solidifying connections: Personalized Thank-Yous: Send personalized thank-you messages to the brand representatives and creators you connected with. Reference something specific you discussed to jog their memory. Maintain the Connection: Follow them on social media, engage with their content, and look for opportunities to collaborate or support each other. Building a community is key in this industry.
