... Read moreYou know that feeling when you're trying to perfect your brows, staring intently in the mirror, maybe even knitting your brows in concentration or frustration? I've been there so many times! My makeup progression from 2019 to 2024 clearly shows my journey with brows, and honestly, they're often the trickiest part to get right. But don't worry, I've picked up a few tips along the way that I hope can save you some 'knitted brow' moments.
One of my biggest game-changers was discovering brow gel. Seriously, if you haven't tried it, you're missing out! In 2021, when I first tried brow gel, it felt like a revelation. It helps tame unruly hairs, sets your shape, and can add a polished finish. For a natural, feathery look, I brush the gel upwards and outwards. If I'm going for more definition, I'll use a brow pencil or powder first, then set it with gel. It makes such a difference in holding the shape throughout the day. I used to get so frustrated trying to keep my brows in place, but brow gel fixed that for me.
Speaking of shape, testing how I like my brows was a crucial step in my journey, as you can see in my 2022 phase. What works for one person might not work for another. I experimented with different arches, thicknesses, and lengths. Sometimes I felt like my brows were too heavy, other times too thin. It's all about finding what complements your face shape and eye structure. Don't be afraid to try new things, even if you have a few 'lazy with the brows' days like I did in 2023! Those days often taught me what not to do, or how to quickly fix a less-than-perfect brow.
Blending is another key takeaway. In 2022, I really started to get somewhere with my overall blend. Harsh lines or unblended product can make brows look unnatural and, ironically, can sometimes make your face look a bit 'harder' or even like you're frowning. Using a spoolie brush to comb through after applying product is essential for softening any lines and distributing color evenly. This creates a much more natural and cohesive look.
And let's talk about the relationship between brows and your overall eye makeup. I realized in 2023 that a cat eye was the best style for my eyes, and my brows needed to complement that. When you're perfecting your wing (that can definitely cause some brow-knitting!), think about how your brows frame your entire eye area. A well-defined brow can elevate a dramatic eyeliner look, while a softer brow might pair better with a subtle eye. It's all about balance.
Finally, don't forget your lip combs! While not directly related to brows, the overall harmony of your makeup look can affect how your features, including your brows, are perceived. I was trying different lip combs in 2023, and finding the right lip color can really pull everything together, making your brows stand out in a good way.
The biggest lesson? Keep practicing! We all start somewhere, and the journey of perfecting your makeup, especially your brows, is a continuous one. Each experiment, each tutorial watched, each 'knitted brow' moment is a step towards finding your signature look. You've got this!
