5 Trick Training IELTS Listening Yourself 🎧

1️⃣ listen to a variety of problems, not just problems.

Don't just practice old tests. Listen to podcasts, YouTube or BBC News, TED Talks to get used to the accent and speed.

2️⃣ Practice catching Keywords

When listening, don't try to write down every word, focus on key words like people's names, numbers, times, places, because most problems are asked from here.

Finish the exam. Try opening the Transcript. Read along and listen again. You can see where you missed the first episode because the words you say may not be clear or connected.

Listening answers are usually numbers, short words, or converted words (e.g., fill s, change tense). Practice these observations to reduce score loss.

1. Mirror Practice 🪞

Method: Speak in front of the mirror, practice eye contact and gestures, explain time.

Scenario: Suppose a Part 1 answer, such as Do you like traveling? You try to make eye contact like talking to an Examiner → will reduce the spasticity of meeting real people.

2. Record & Review 🎧

Method: Use the phone to record yourself and listen again.

Situation: Say answer Part 2 "Describe a favorite book" When listening back, you might hear that you say, you know... too often → immediately know that the filler words should be cut out.

3.1-Minute Challenge ⏱️

Method: Set a short answer time to complete in 1 minute.

Scenario: For example, what is your favorite food problem? You must quickly answer it with an introduction → explanation → example → conclusion → in less than 1 minute. Practice the structure clearly.

4. Synonym Upgrade 📚

Method: Select a frequently used word and find a more advanced word instead.

Scenario: If you say The movie was good → Try upgrading to The movie was fascinating / thought-provoking → Examiner will see your vocabulary as advanced.
