Hey everyone! So many of you have asked about the inspiration behind my adorable baby elephant mural, and I totally get it – who doesn't love a cute, small elephant plush? These little guys just have a way of capturing our hearts with their sweet, innocent looks, and I really wanted to bring that same cozy, huggable feeling into my latest art piece. When I started this project, I spent ages just scrolling through inspiration, looking at different small elephant plush toys and illustrations. I wanted to capture that distinct 'plush' aesthetic: big, gentle eyes, chubby cheeks, and those soft, rounded edges that make you want to reach out and touch them. It’s all about creating a sense of warmth and comfort, even on a wall! For me, a plush toy isn't just a toy; it's a character, a friend, and an amazing muse for art. To get that lovely, soft texture in the mural, I focused a lot on shading and blending. Layering different shades of grey and pink, and then adding subtle highlights, really helps to give the elephant a three-dimensional, almost fuzzy look, just like a real small elephant plush. It's a bit tricky to make paint look soft, but with patience and a good blending brush, you can achieve amazing results. I also paid special attention to the eyes – they're the window to the soul, right? Making them slightly glossy and adding a tiny catchlight really brings the character to life and gives it that endearing, plush-toy gaze. You might have seen my little update about working 'til 4am on this piece, and honestly, it’s true! When you're passionate about a project, especially one that brings so much joy, time just flies by. There are days when I'm just lost in the flow, happy to be 'working on my mural,' sketching out details, and seeing this little guy slowly come to life. It’s challenging, for sure, but seeing the progress, especially on a large scale like a mural, is incredibly rewarding. It's those late nights that often lead to the most magical breakthroughs in a creative project. Maybe it's a favorite stuffed animal from childhood, a picture you saw online, or even an imagined friend. Try to think about what makes that particular plush so endearing.
