Reading three very different books in June gave me an interesting spectrum of literary experiences. "Famesick" by Lena Dunham resonated deeply with me, especially the portrayal of chronic illness and the exhausting pressure of public life. Her memoir felt very personal and validating, highlighting the challenges of being a first-generation Latina navigating fame. It’s not just a celebrity story — it’s about learning to prioritize yourself despite external demands. On the other hand, "Half His Age" by Annette McCurdy was a tough read due to its sensitive subject matter involving a student-teacher relationship. What struck me was how the narrative avoided romanticizing the relationship, instead exposing the imbalance of power and emotional complexity. It made me reflect on how stories handle female rage and desire in socially challenging contexts. The DNF for "Fair Play" was a surprise. I went in expecting a fun, Clue-style murder mystery but found myself disengaged. The focus on grief rather than the mystery plot left me disconnected, and the character-driven storylines didn't capture my interest. It made me realize how personal preferences sharply affect reading enjoyment, even when a book is widely praised. This variety in genres and themes shows how important it is to explore books that challenge your perspectives, but also highlights that it’s okay to stop reading something that isn’t connecting. This was before I knew how to DNF a book and… I wish I had with these. My main reasons were either the book was way too unrealistic for a thriller/unbelievable, not age appropriate or just straight up boring 🥱 No hate if you liked these! They just were my cup of tea and that’s okay! ✨
