If you’re planning a visit to Suwon, I highly recommend finding this gem called Halmeoni Ne Jip, which truly feels like dining at a family member’s home. The restaurant is quite small with just a few tables, and it gets packed quickly, so be prepared to try sitting in the hall outside if inside seating is full. One of the things that stood out to me was their handwritten menu in a cute notebook, complete with little notes that added to the intimate and personal vibe. During my visit, I ordered the stir-fried pork set, which is surprisingly large and meant for two people, yet perfect for solo travelers with a hearty appetite or to share with a friend. This set came with sides like rice and seaweed soup that complement the main dish wonderfully. The quality of the food was delicious, scoring an 8.5 out of 10 in my book, but what really stole the show was the cozy and homey atmosphere—definitely a 100 out of 10 for vibes. The restaurant also offers both lettuce and perilla leaves to wrap your pork, enhancing the flavors and making each bite delightful. Another item I tried was their cheese kimbap, which was surprisingly tasty and worth a try if you want a lighter side or snack. I found out about this place through a TikTok video, which is a great way to discover authentic local spots that might not be on the typical tourist map. Halmeoni Ne Jip is located at 171 Buksu-dong, Paldal-gu in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do and is open daily from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM with a break between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Note that it closes every Monday, so plan your visit accordingly. Whether you are a Korea travel enthusiast or a foodie seeking authentic local flavors, this cozy spot is definitely worth saving for your itinerary. From my experience, the combination of home-cooked flavors, generous portions, and the family-run charm gave this place a unique and unforgettable character that you won’t find in larger commercial restaurants. If you enjoy meals that bring comforting nostalgia and a warm environment, Halmeoni Ne Jip should be on your Suwon food adventure list.
