Getting my hair done in Japan 🇯🇵 (honest experience

I’m a serial hair salon hopper aka I never stick to one specific salon LOL, which also means the probability of having a bad salon experience is way higher 😅 but I still always take the risk despite getting scarred many times hahaha.

It was a completely impromptu decision to do my hair in Japan and honestly… best decision ever. Japanese salons are quite literally life-changing 😮‍💨 I didn’t do any research prior and just walked aimlessly around Ginza, with the help of gmaps ofc. Checked out a few salons and asked for quotes.. the toughest part was honestly the language barrier 😮‍💨 I often find myself on the translator app with a lot of mismatched understanding and hand gestures lol. Eventually decided on Naoki because of Kenji-san!! He was extremely sincere and could communicate with me decently in English. End verdict? Absolutely no regrets!! They would easily sit in my top few salon experiences 🥹 AND I paid a fraction of what SG salons have quoted me!!! Neighbourhood salons were quoting me $400++ for bleach highlights + colour + cut + treatment.

Total damage at Naoki Salon💸?? ¥33,000!! Which is ~SGD268🥹🥹🥹

Although to be completely objective, I would’ve preferred my overall hair colour to be slightly darker so the bleached pieces stands out more.. but honestly it’s probably a bit of miscommunication 🙂‍↔️ (so pls rmb to be thorough in your consultation with them!!)

But!! I still love the end result, and after a month now, the colour is ageing really well too ✨ sooo no complains ✌🏼

... Read moreAs someone who loves switching salons frequently, Japanese salons truly stood out in terms of quality and affordability. Beyond the excellent hair techniques, I was impressed by the warm and attentive customer care. Many salons in Tokyo, especially around Ginza, offer a variety of esthetic services alongside hair treatments, making it a one-stop pampering destination. If you’re considering a visit, note that communication is key—using translator apps can only go so far. It helps to prepare pictures of your desired hairstyle or color in advance. Also, don't hesitate to ask lots of questions during consultation to avoid any misunderstandings about the final look, especially with bleaching or highlighting. Japanese salons often use high-quality products tailored to specific hair needs, which contributes to the vibrant and long-lasting color I experienced. Many salons combine haircuts with treatments that keep hair healthy and shiny, an added bonus if you’re looking to maintain hair wellness. If budget is a concern, neighborhood salons in Japan offer superb services at significantly lower prices than many Singapore salons. Plus, the attention to detail in styling and client satisfaction is remarkable. Whether you want a simple cut or complex coloring, salons here emphasize a personalized approach. Finally, exploring esthetic salons during your trip can complement your hair salon visit. Japan’s esthetic salons are known for effective skincare and relaxing treatments that enhance your overall travel experience. Combining the two can leave you refreshed and glowing from head to toe!

DON’T visit REDS Salon in JB CIQ!
For context, I read many glowing reviews for this salon, which drove me to book a session for hair dying. Please take all of the online reviews with a pinch of salt because I now know that they offer customers vouchers/discounts in exchange for 5 star reviews🤢 Onto the actual experience: Firstl

No more hair to remove? (kinda) 🤡
I've been visiting @Japan IPL (somewhat) consistently for the past year and its time i say it... there's almost nothing left to remove (for my fingers at least). I'm really amazed, eapecially as someone who frequently forgets to get my IPL done, i wasnt sure how effective it would be

Where My Hairy Gals At?! 🦍
NO GATEKEEPING the best beauty decision I made. I used to be super insecure about my underarms because I’m generally quite a hairy gal. I tried out an IPL session early last year, and NGL, I’m so glad I did it. I was quite skeptical at first, but I started seeing results after three sessions (on
