Natural Hair…TikTok made me do it
A true TikTok made me do it story…
I feel like curltok was taking over my feed, I wear my hair wavy all the time but haven't tried pulling out my natural curls since I was like 19 years old. Watching all these videos introduced me to so many new products I figured I’d give it another go. So after a few purchases at Ulta I did and loooooooved the way my hair turned out! I’m still learning some techniques that help, for example to make sure my curls turn away from my face instead of towards my face so still a work in progress but still happy with it so far.

It’s been such a fun journey diving back into my natural curls! After that initial success, I've been really dedicated to exploring more about natural hair care, and let me tell you, there's so much to learn. One thing I quickly realized is how diverse natural hair is. Understanding your own curl pattern, whether it's wavy, coily, or somewhere in the middle like some beautiful 4a curl patterns I've seen online, is key to finding the right products and techniques. It really helps you tailor your routine to what your hair needs. I've also been experimenting with different methods to get those coveted, defined jelly curls everyone raves about. It's all about hydration and finding the right styling products that give hold without crunch. Personally, I usually start with a good leave-in conditioner on soaking wet hair, then apply a curl cream or gel. I make sure to distribute it evenly by squishing the product in, which really helps to encourage my natural curl pattern. Sometimes I'll even use a diffuser on a low heat setting to help set them without creating frizz. The goal is to get that bouncy, shiny, and well-defined look! Beyond just defining my curls, I'm also thinking more about protective hairstyles to keep my hair healthy and strong. For natural hair, especially tighter textures like 4a hair, protective styles are super important for length retention and minimizing breakage. While I'm still exploring what works best for my hair type, I've seen amazing results from others who regularly braid, twist, or put their hair into updos to keep it tucked away. Simple things like sleeping on a satin pillowcase or using a silk bonnet also make a huge difference in protecting your curls overnight. When I want a quick and easy style that still looks polished, I often go for a half up half down natural hair look. It’s perfect for showing off my beautiful curls while keeping some hair out of my face. I just gather the top section of my hair, secure it with a soft scrunchie or a cute clip, and let the rest of my curls fall freely. It's a versatile style that works for almost any occasion and keeps my hair managed throughout the day. On my journey, I've also learned about the incredible services offered by braiding salons. It’s true that many of these salons specialize in natural hairstyling. They focus on techniques like braids, twists, and locs that embrace and enhance the hair's natural curl or coil pattern without using harsh chemicals. It's wonderful to see places dedicated to celebrating and caring for natural hair! While I'm personally focused on my wash-and-go curl routine right now, I appreciate the artistry and expertise these salons provide to the natural hair community. I've even looked into classic styles like press and curl hairstyles for women and even little girl press and curl hairstyles, which are a part of hair history. While my personal goal is to maximize my natural curl pattern without heat, it's interesting to see the different ways people have styled and cared for their hair over the years. This whole natural hair journey has truly been an adventure, and I'm loving every step of it. It’s more than just hair; it’s about embracing what's natural and learning to love every aspect of it. Don't be afraid to experiment, try new products, and find what makes your curls shine! Remember, patience is key, and every day is a step closer to your best curl day.
