Stop Saying These 5 Things to ChatGPT 👀

If ChatGPT keeps giving you answers that feel generic, confusing, or completely off… it may not be the AI. It may be the way you’re asking. 😂

One of the biggest things I’m learning is that better prompts usually lead to better answers.

Instead of saying:

❌ “Tell me about this.”

Try: “Explain this in simple language like I’m a complete beginner.”

❌ “Help me with this.”

Try: “Walk me through this step by step and tell me what to do first.”

❌ “What should I do?”

Try giving ChatGPT your actual situation and asking for 3 realistic options with the pros and cons of each.

❌ “I don’t understand.”

Try: “Explain that again using simpler words, shorter sentences, and a real-life example.”

❌ “Do it for me.”

Instead, tell ChatGPT the goal, format, audience, tone, and what you actually need the finished result to accomplish.

That tiny difference can completely change the quality of the response.

And if you’re over 40 and still figuring out AI, Canva, content creation, or digital products, you do not need to know all the fancy terminology.

You just need to learn how to give AI better directions.

That’s the skill. 🤍

Save this so the next time ChatGPT gives you a terrible answer, you know exactly what to change.

... Read moreWhen I first started using ChatGPT, I often found myself frustrated because the answers felt vague or unrelated to what I actually needed. Over time, I realized the key wasn’t the AI itself but how I asked my questions. For anyone, especially those of us over 40 who might not be tech-savvy, learning to craft better prompts changed everything. For example, instead of a broad "Tell me about this," I now always specify the level of detail I want, like "Explain this in simple language like I’m a complete beginner." This small shift helps the AI understand my background and gives me clear, jargon-free explanations. Another thing I learned is to provide context when asking, especially for advice. Just asking "What should I do?" leaves too much to guesswork. But when I describe my situation and ask for 3 realistic options with pros and cons, the responses are much more tailored and actionable. Also, when I don’t understand something, I avoid vague statements like "I don’t understand." Instead, I ask ChatGPT to "Explain that again with simpler words, shorter sentences, and a real-life example." This approach has made difficult concepts much easier to grasp. One of the biggest improvements came from moving away from asking the AI to "Do it for me." ChatGPT can only create something relevant if it knows the goal, format, audience, and tone. Now, I explain what I want the finished product to accomplish and ask for guidance step-by-step, which results in outputs I can actually use. This process is a discipline that improves with practice, but it’s incredibly rewarding. I encourage others to save these prompting tips and experiment with them. It drastically improves your AI experience, whether you’re working on digital products, learning new skills, or simply exploring AI’s potential as a beginner over 40. It’s about consistency and clear communication, not fancy tech terms—just better directions. By adopting this mindset, you transform ChatGPT from a frustrating tool into a powerful assistant tailored to your unique needs.
