CHOCOLATE EGG TARTS 🍫🪺🐰
One of the most underrated treats - so easy to make. The hardest part is waiting for the filling to set.
Ingredients:
12 x Butternut snap biscuits - @Arnott’s Biscuits
100g melting milk chocolate - @CadburyAU
50ml thickened cream
12 x mini Easter eggs
Method:
1. Pre-heat oven to 160 degrees celsius fan forced
2. Place biscuits into the holes of a 12 hole cupcake pan
3. Place the biscuits into the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the centres are soft enough to shape into a well.
4. Remove the tray from the oven and use the back of a teaspoon to gently press to create a small dip. Leave to cool completely in the tray.
5. Place melting chocolate and thickened cream into a microwave safe bowl and heat / stir in 30 second increments until the chocolate is completely melted & the mixture is smooth.
6. Once the biscuits are cooled, place onto a plate and fill half way with the chocolate ganache. Place a chocolate egg on top.
7. Transfer the plate to the fridge for 1 hour to allow the ganache to semi set.
8. Serve & enjoy 🤤
Important note: The milk chocolate cannot be substituted for white or dark chocolate as ganache recipes have different ratios for cream depending on the chocolate type.

Making these chocolate egg tarts at home is not only satisfying but also a great way to involve kids in baking, especially around Easter. From personal experience, I found that using Butternut snap biscuits provides a wonderful crunchy base that contrasts beautifully with the smooth, creamy ganache. When shaping the biscuit into a well, don’t rush—press gently with the back of a teaspoon to avoid cracking, and make sure the biscuits have cooled completely to hold the shape well. Working with the melting milk chocolate and cream requires patience; heating in 30-second bursts with stirring in between ensures the ganache is silky without burning the chocolate. One crucial tip I’ve learned is to use only milk chocolate as stated, since the ratios for ganache vary greatly with white or dark chocolate, leading to texture issues. Chilling the tarts for an hour to semi-set the ganache really enhances the flavors and sets the structure for easy serving. These treats also make perfect bite-sized desserts for parties or family gatherings. Adding the mini Easter eggs on top not only adds a festive touch but also an extra chocolatey surprise. For those who want to experiment, you might try adding a hint of orange zest to the ganache for a citrus twist or sprinkle a little sea salt on top before setting to balance the sweetness. Overall, these chocolate egg tarts are an underrated delight that can bring smiles and holiday cheer with minimal effort.
