Free and simple things to do with your kids

Spring is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy nature! Fresh air, sunshine, and movement are all essential for their development and it doesn’t have to cost a thing.

Here are some of our favorite free outdoor activities for spring:

Mud kitchen play – Give them some old bowls and spoons and let them mix up what they find!

Rock or acorn collecting – Bring out a small basket and collect rocks or acorns!

Picnic and story time– Pack a simple snack and read books outside under a shady tree.

Cloud watching & nature journaling – look for shapes in the clouds and encourage kids to draw or describe what they see.

Bird watching– Bring binoculars and see what birds you can find.

Gardening together – Even if it’s just digging in the dirt!

Barefoot walks– Let them feel the grass, dirt, and mud under their feet!

... Read moreSpring is an ideal time to connect your kids with nature, offering numerous free activities that are not only fun but also beneficial for their development. Encourage imaginative play with a mud kitchen, using old bowls and spoons to create with what they find. Nature-focused activities like collecting rocks or acorns foster curiosity and exploration. Organize picnic story times, where you can enjoy a simple snack while reading under a tree, creating a serene bonding experience. Cloud watching enhances creativity; have your children draw what they see in the sky or describe the shapes they find. Bird watching is another exciting activity—bring binoculars and see how many different birds you can spot, making it an educational experience as well. Gardening together, even if it's just digging in the soil, teaches responsibility and the joys of nurturing plants. Allow barefoot walks to offer your kids a tactile experience, letting them feel the earth beneath their feet as they explore the textures of grass and mud. Additionally, consider splashing around in water outside. This playful activity is a perfect way to clean off after a meal while enjoying nature. Set a schedule for these activities throughout spring to ensure you maximize your time outdoors and cultivate a love for nature in your little ones.
