Kindness Matters
During times of hardship, it can be easy to focus on the challenges we face, but I’ve learned that even in the darkest moments, beautiful things are happening behind closed doors—things that remind us of the goodness in this world.
I want to take a moment to encourage everyone to start sharing those small yet powerful acts of kindness that often go unseen. They serve as a reminder that there are still good people out there who are willing to extend a helping hand.
Just last Sunday night, a sister from the Church of Islam stopped by with an abundance of goodies and clothing for my daughter and me. Although I’m still working to resolve the major issue of eviction, this simple yet heartfelt act of kindness left a big imprint on my heart.
It’s moments like these that remind me of the power of love, community, and compassion. These small acts might seem minor to some, but they carry so much weight for those in need.
Let’s keep lifting one another up and being the light for someone else. Together, we can be the proof that goodness still thrives in this world.
To anyone going through a tough time—hold on. There’s still so much kindness around you, even when you can’t see it.

When life throws its toughest challenges, it’s easy to feel lost in the shadows. But my journey has taught me that the phrase 'in the dark times let kindness be the light' isn't just a saying; it's a profound truth I've experienced firsthand. It means that even when everything feels like it's falling apart, a single act of kindness can pierce through the gloom, offering not just practical help but also a powerful sense of hope and connection. For me, that light came from an unexpected place. During a period of immense struggle, including facing eviction, a kind soul from the Church of Islam here in Bowling Green reached out. They brought me and my daughter 'so much goods,' including comforting items like macaroni & cheese. While it might seem like a small detail, those gestures were monumental. It wasn't just about the food or clothing; it was the warmth of knowing someone cared enough to extend a hand without asking for anything in return. I was, and still am, super duper grateful. In those moments, I truly understood that even when I was feeling the 'lack all the time,' there are 'greater things that are happening within the lock' – the unseen compassion that sustains us. Kindness acts as a light in dark times by reminding us of our shared humanity. It tells us we are not alone in our struggles. It fosters a sense of community and solidarity, turning strangers into allies. This experience made me realize the profound impact of showing up for others, even in seemingly small ways. It's about being present, offering what you can, and radiating positivity when someone else is navigating their own personal night. It's about restoring faith when it feels like it's slipping away, proving that goodness still thrives. So, how can we all embody this light? It begins with awareness, noticing those around us who might be struggling. It can be a kind word, an offer of a listening ear, or a practical gesture like sharing a meal or an item you no longer need. My experience has made me 'always grateful' and inspired me to pay it forward, to be a source of light for someone else. Let's continue to share these stories of human connection and compassion, because every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to illuminate the darkest of paths, reminding us all to hold on, and be 'forever grateful' for the goodness that surrounds us.
