Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House as a symbolic gesture recognizing his support for Venezuelan freedom.
Machado says the gift honors Trump’s role in promoting democracy after the U.S. military overthrow of Nicolás Maduro.
Trump thanked Machado and called the moment a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect,” and a White House official confirmed he accepted the medal.
The Norwegian Nobel Institute has emphasized the peace prize itself cannot be transferred, shared or revoked, though the medal was handed over physically.
The meeting also included bipartisan talks on Venezuela’s political transition, but Trump reiterated hesitation about backing Machado as its future leader.
The event reflects deep diplomatic and political drama following the U.S. intervention in Venezuela.
