Go for a new tea cup at "100 + 100" Ceramic × Painting
When teacups and paintings meet in the dialogue of clay, and when clay and painting speak the same language, "100 + 100" is an exhibition that invites us to look at ceramics and painting with a new eye by artists Steven Low and Wichita Nong.
In this exhibition, we will find the work of Singaporean artist Steven Low, who presents Chawan, or a meticulously creative traditional Japanese teacup, every step of the way, from soil selection, molding, glazing, to ancient firewood stove burning, which creates unpredictable patterns and colors, like recording the breath of fire and earth into each piece.
While Wichit Nong Nong Nong, a Thai artist who specializes in both ceramics and painting, has used clay as the heart of paintings, conveying textures, colors and traces caused by the nature of the soil, reflecting the connection between pottery and painting as the same journey.
The works in this exhibition convey not only the beauty in simplicity and imperfection based on the Japanese wabi-sabi concept, but also speak of traces of hidden hands and time in every surface. Molding and drawing is therefore an exploration of the boundaries of creativity that do not stop with traditional techniques.
Both artists used clay as a starting point, but took us on a different path, one through a living vessel from a fire, the other through a painting breathing traces of clay. Let's explore the two clay artworks at the "100 + 100" exhibition.

ถ้าใครเสิร์ชหา Mana Art หรือ Mana Art Gallery แล้วกำลังลังเลว่าจะไปดีไหม เราว่านิทรรศการ “100+100” เป็นหนึ่งในงานที่เดินดูเพลินมาก โดยเฉพาะคนที่ชอบงานคราฟต์ เซรามิก หรือชอบดูพื้นผิวในภาพวาดแบบใกล้ ๆ เพราะที่นี่เขาจัดวางให้เราเห็น “ของจริง” (ถ้วยชา Chawan) คู่กับ “ภาพ” ที่พูดภาษาเดียวกันเรื่องดินและไฟ สิ่งที่เราชอบใน Mana Art Gallery คือพื้นที่ค่อนข้างสงบ เดินได้สบาย ไม่รีบ และแสงในห้องทำให้เห็นรายละเอียดพื้นผิวชัด ทั้งงานจิตรกรรมที่เป็นภาพถ้วยชาเซรามิกขนาดใหญ่ และโซนชั้นไม้ที่แบ่งเป็นช่อง ๆ วางถ้วยชาไว้หลายใบ แต่ละใบมีสี ลาย และร่องรอยการเผาที่ไม่ซ้ำกันเลย บางใบผิวหยาบ บางใบสีส้มเข้ม บางใบมีคราบเคลือบไหล ๆ แบบที่ยิ่งมองใกล้ยิ่งสนุก (ตรงนี้แนะนำให้เดินวนดูหลายมุม เพราะเงาและแสงทำให้ผิวงานเปลี่ยนไป) ถ้าอยากไปแบบคุ้ม ๆ เราแนะนำให้เผื่อเวลาประมาณ 45–90 นาที จะได้ดูทั้งภาพและถ้วยชาแบบไม่เร่ง ช่วงที่คนไม่แน่นจะเดินถ่ายรูปได้ง่ายกว่า แต่ถ่ายแล้วอย่าลืมเช็กกติกาของแกลเลอรีเรื่องแฟลช/ระยะห่างกับงานด้วยนะ ทริกเล็ก ๆ ตอนดูงาน: ลองสังเกตว่า “ภาพวาด” เลียนเสียงของดินอย่างไร เช่น รอยแตก ความขรุขระ เม็ดทราย หรือคราบสีที่ดูเหมือนเกิดจากความร้อน แล้วค่อยกลับไปดู “ถ้วยชา Chawan ของจริง” ว่าร่องรอยเหล่านั้นเกิดขึ้นบนผิวงานจริงแบบไหน มันทำให้การดูงานสนุกขึ้นมาก เหมือนได้ต่อบทสนทนาระหว่างเซรามิก × จิตรกรรมด้วยตัวเอง สรุปคือ ถ้าตั้งใจมา Mana Art Gallery เพื่อหางานที่ดูง่ายแต่มีรายละเอียดให้จ้อง งานนี้ตอบโจทย์ แถมเข้าชมฟรีด้วย ใครชอบเซรามิก ถ้วยชา หรือแนววาบิ-ซาบิที่เห็นความงามของความไม่สมบูรณ์แบบ น่าจะเดินออกมาแบบได้แรงบันดาลใจแน่นอน
