FORMA – Shape What PETE LIN Feels
"FORMA - Shape What PETE LIN Feels," an exhibition that translates Carmen - Habanera music into the shape of emotions, memories, and rhythms by PETE LINE.
The exhibition begins with the question "How can feelings... become shaped?" The question becomes the core of the creation of the work, inspired by the Carmen - Habanera (L'amour est un oiseau rebelle) from the Carmen Opera, written by Georges Bizet in 1875.
Carmen - Habanera is the theatrical theme song "Carmen," a young Gypsy woman who symbolizes charm, freedom, and inalienable love. The lyrics likened love to an untamed "stubborn bird," combining habanera rhythms from Cuba, slow, soft, but imbued with endless attraction, tension, and swirling emotions. With obvious emotional power, the song became one of the most famous operatic songs in classical music history.
The artist adopted Carmen - Habanera as the emotional structure of work. For the artist, the music is not only the sound, but the inner rhythm that determines the direction of lines, shapes, and textures. The work is therefore not a musical transcription, if it is to translate emotions into perceived sculptures both visually and emotionally.
Works in the exhibition include sculptures from wood, iron and fiberglass that convey the rhythms of nature, time and inner emotions, such as Earth Pulse that speaks to the heart rhythm of the earth, Auric Drift that reflects slow changes, Grainflow series that reveal tree growth through wood grain, Topographic Memory that documents traces of time, to Whale of the Woven Tides, Elemental Circle and Whispering Grove that silently link natural forces, balance and movement.
