Spent the first half of the month being sick. Excited to get back to creating cosplay— excited to start making a new cosplay! I’m sure you can guess what it might be~
I love crafting but the inspiration to do so hasn’t been as bright as it was since the beginning of 2024 when I made Lucifer and Vox for Hazbin hotel (my Alastor sits still half made).
But Sonic has taken my soul. And I fear I am falling down the Sega wormhole— and I can’t wait to share my Sonic design :3
Notes: the squishmallows are Walmart Valentines exclusives. The ducks are a Tubbs X Sonic collab you can find at Books a Million. And the figures are the Sonic 3 official you can also find at Walmart ~
... Read moreWow, what a month! From feeling under the weather to getting completely swept up in the incredible world of Sonic the Hedgehog – who knew January would take such an exciting turn? I mentioned falling down the 'Sega wormhole,' and honestly, it's the best kind of rabbit hole to get lost in! If you're like me and feeling that familiar pull towards a new fandom, or just looking to dive deeper into Sonic's universe, let me share some tips and what I've learned so far.
Getting back into crafting has been such a mood booster. After tackling Hazbin Hotel characters like Lucifer and Vox, I'm buzzing with ideas for my next big project. For anyone thinking about their own Sonic cosplay, whether it's the speedy blue blur himself, the edgy Shadow, or even the loyal sidekick Tails or Knuckles, the possibilities are endless! I'm always looking for inspiration on how to make a character truly come to life. Think about the iconic elements: Sonic's red shoes, those classic gold rings, or even Shadow's jet shoes. Sourcing materials can be half the fun – hitting up fabric stores for the perfect shades of blue or red, or even repurposing items. Don't be afraid to start small with accessories or a casual version of your favorite character. The joy is in the creation!
And then there's the collecting! My journey into the Sonic universe has quickly filled my shelf with some amazing finds. I am absolutely loving my new Squishmallows (those Walmart Valentine's exclusives are adorable!) and the unique Tubbs X Sonic collab ducks from Books-A-Million are just too cute to pass up. For fellow collectors, keep your eyes peeled for those official figures – like the Sonic and Shadow character figures from the new Sonic 3 movie I found. I've found that local toy stores, big box retailers like Walmart, and even online marketplaces often have hidden gems. Sometimes it’s about patience, other times it’s about a lucky find!
One tip I'd share for new collectors is to decide what kind of items you want to focus on. Do you love plush toys, action figures, or perhaps something more obscure like art books or game memorabilia? Having a focus can make the hunt even more rewarding and prevent your collection from overwhelming your space. I'm personally drawn to unique collaborations and figures that capture the characters' essence. Seeing my collection grow, from the smallest collectible rubber ducks to the detailed Sonic and Shadow figures, really brings a smile to my face.
The best part about finding a new fandom passion, whether it's through cosplay or collecting, is connecting with others who share that same excitement. There's a huge community out there for Sonic fans, full of people sharing their creations, hauls, and game experiences. It’s inspiring to see what others are doing and to share in that collective joy. So, if you're feeling a creative spark or a collector's itch, don't hesitate to dive in! What characters are you hoping to cosplay next, or what's your ultimate Sonic collectible?
