Joann is going out of business so I’m losing my favorite fabric store. I had to scoop up as much wicked cheap fabric as my arms could hold haha. I have some projects in mind but I also just love having all the fabric haha. #treatyourself#fabric

While it's crucial to acknowledge those feelings, it's equally important to actively engage in self-care to help you navigate this challenging time. For me, that recently meant a huge fabric haul from Joann's, which was bittersweet given they're closing. But honestly, it was the perfect 'treat yo self' moment I needed.
Taking time to do something that brings you genuine joy, even something as simple as shopping for craft supplies, can be incredibly therapeutic. It’s not about avoiding your feelings, but about creating pockets of happiness and productivity that help lift your spirits. My fabric haul isn't just about buying things; it's about the promise of new projects, the tactile pleasure of different textures, and the mental escape into creative planning. It reminds me that there's always something new to create, something positive to focus on.
But self-care after a breakup goes beyond just retail therapy. It's a holistic approach to nurturing your mind, body, and soul. Here are a few ways I've found helpful, and perhaps you will too:
Embrace Your Hobbies (or find new ones!): Like my fabric obsession, diving into a hobby can be an amazing distraction and a source of accomplishment. Whether it's painting, writing, gardening, learning an instrument, or cooking, these activities give you a positive outlet and a sense of purpose outside of your past relationship. It's a chance to rediscover what you love.
Prioritize Physical Well-being: This can be tough when you're feeling down, but even small steps help. Go for a walk, try a new workout class, cook a healthy meal, or simply ensure you're getting enough sleep. When your body feels better, your mind often follows.
Connect with Your Support System: Don't isolate yourself. Lean on friends and family who uplift you. Share your feelings, or just enjoy their company. Sometimes, a good laugh with loved ones is the best medicine.
Practice Mindfulness and Reflection: Journaling can be incredibly powerful. Write down your thoughts, feelings, and even your hopes for the future. Meditation or simply taking a few moments each day to quietly reflect can also help you process emotions and gain clarity.
Allow Yourself to Feel: It's okay to be sad, angry, or confused. Don't suppress your emotions. Give yourself permission to grieve, but also remind yourself that these feelings are temporary.
Remember, healing isn't a race, and it's not linear. There will be good days and bad days. The key is to be kind to yourself, celebrate small victories, and proactively choose activities that contribute to your well-being. My fabric stash is a tangible reminder of my commitment to self-care and finding joy again. What's your version of a 'treat yo self' that can help you through?
