Someone needs to take my scissors away

My partner is going to have a mini coronary when he wakes up. My hair has always been wicked long but I fried it with bleach so I have been cutting my hair here and there to get the ick off. It was past my shoulders when he fell asleep, when he wakes up he’ll see that my hair just barely goes into a pony tail now. The plus side for me, there isn’t much bleach damage left. A few more months and one more trim, I’ll be looking at virgin hair ☺️ #impulse #manic #healthyhair #haircut #DIY

When I realized my long hair was suffering from the effects of repeated bleaching, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Regular trims helped me chip away at the damaged ends bit by bit, and cutting my hair off little by little was surprisingly therapeutic and empowering. One thing I learned is that patience is key — recovery doesn’t happen overnight, and consistent care matters more than dramatic changes. Alongside trimming, I switched to hair products focused on hydration and repair, including sulfate-free shampoos, protein treatments, and leave-in conditioners. Avoiding heat styling tools also gave my hair time to regain strength naturally. My DIY haircut experience taught me how important it is to listen to your hair’s needs and adapt accordingly. It’s also a reminder that sometimes, less is more: minimal trimming often works better than drastic cuts that can cause uneven damage. For anyone battling bleach damage or struggling with maintaining long hair health, consider gentle trims combined with nourishing hair care products and a well-balanced diet. In a few months, your hair can look and feel renewed, just like mine is on its way to becoming nearly virgin once again.
