Day in the White Mountains
I drove through some of my favorite little stops in northern New Hampshire.
🌊 Third Hole – Gorham, NH
A natural swimming hole tucked along the Peabody River. Clear mountain water and smooth rocks. Best meditation spot for me to be still and listen to nothing but the flowing waters.
🏔️ Driving through Franconia Notch – Franconia, NH
One of the most beautiful drives in New Hampshire. Mountains rise on both sides of the road, with waterfalls, hiking trails, lakes, and scenic views throughout the notch. Any chance I get to drive through here; I take it and soak it all in.
💧 Route 2 Spring Well – Jefferson, NH
A roadside mountain spring where locals and travelers often stop to fill water jugs. The water is ice cold year-round and has become one of my favorite stops before I camp at Rogers Campground in Lancaster,NH.
My best days are never planned.
Visiting the White Mountains offers a perfect escape into nature’s calm, with each stop revealing its own unique charm. When I stopped at the Third Hole along the Peabody River in Gorham, I found it to be a peaceful retreat — the clear water and smooth rocks invite you to sit quietly and reflect, truly tuning out the world around you. This spot felt like an ideal place to meditate and recharge. Driving through Franconia Notch is always a breathtaking experience. The towering mountains frame the road beautifully and the frequent waterfalls and hiking trails invite you to pause and explore. On my recent trip, I made sure to stop at some viewpoints to soak in the stunning scenery and capture the vibrant colors of nature. The fresh mountain air and the sound of rustling leaves made the drive feel almost magical. Another highlight was the Route 2 spring well in Jefferson. This unassuming roadside stop provides some of the coldest, freshest natural spring water I’ve ever tasted. It's popular with both locals and travelers alike. Filling my water jug here before camping at Rogers Campground in Lancaster was a refreshing bonus that kept me hydrated and connected to the mountain environment. For anyone planning a visit to the White Mountains, I’d recommend embracing the spontaneous moments and less crowded sites like these. These hidden gems not only offer beautiful sights but also a chance to enjoy nature’s therapy, whether you’re hiking, swimming, or simply resting by a flowing river. Solo travelers will also find these spots welcoming and rejuvenating. Each little stop added something special to my day, reminding me that the best adventures are often unplanned and quietly profound.
