Barre Class Review: Lab Studios
1st Barre Class at Holland Village
There were about 16 of us in the room, but it still felt spacious and comfortable (plus, it was nicely cooling). I liked how the workout flowed in a cycle — working one set on the right, then reversing to the left. The instructor used a speaker, so her cues were clear even with music playing. One minor downside — I forgot my hair tie, and the studio doesn’t provide any, so my hair was flying everywhere!
2nd Barre Class at Stanley Street
This was the only session I took at their Stanley Street outlet. There were just three of us in class! That made it feel really personal. I ended up sweating a lot more here. Since I’m quite weak at core exercises, the instructor kept encouraging me throughout. At the very last set, I caught all three of us struggling to recover while the instructor powered on — clearly, we weren’t at her level, but it was motivating!
3rd Class – Mat Pilates at Holland Village
I booked this class just a few hours before the session. I enjoyed using the props — weights, ankle weights, and the Pilates circle — and the 5-minute station gave me the burst of HIIT I’d been craving. However, the rest of the exercises felt lacking, and I ended up with some neck strain from the constant lifting.
4th Barre Class at Holland Village
Back to barre! What I appreciated most here was how the instructor offered alternatives for certain movements, which really helped me since my core strength is still a work in progress.
5th Barre Class at Holland Village
This one was a pleasant surprise. I thought I’d be repeating familiar exercises, but instead, I learned new movements using the Pilates ball. The instructor took time to explain the right form before we began and kept reminding us to adjust throughout the class. I really liked the extra attention to technique.
Overall
I find myself enjoying the barre classes at Lab Studio. They strike the right balance between strength, endurance, and form. I have purchased their 25 mat Pilates/barre class package for $400 in July, so I still have 20 more classes to go. The last I checked, August has a different promotion, so do check it out!
With all the mirrors around, I’ve become much more conscious of my form, especially when it comes to protecting my back during core work. The instructors are consistently attentive and make sure I don’t arch my back wrongly.
All the bookings were done in their app, and they are really easy to use!

If you’re considering taking barre or Pilates classes at Lab Studios, it helps to know what to expect beyond the workout itself. From my experience, the class locations — including Holland Village, Stanley Street, and Joo Chiat — each have a unique vibe and class size that can influence your comfort and motivation levels. One thing I learned is to always bring your own hair tie because the studio doesn’t provide any, and keeping your hair tied back is important for focused movement. Also, their app makes booking classes very seamless, which is a relief when juggling a busy schedule. The instructors are particularly attentive to form, which is crucial for preventing injuries, especially during core exercises. They also offer alternative movements for different fitness levels — this personalized approach helped me progress without feeling overwhelmed. For those interested in trying the mat Pilates classes, be mindful that some movements may cause neck strain if your form isn’t perfect. It’s worth mentioning that they provide useful props like Pilates balls and ankle weights, which add variety and intensity to the routines. My package purchase of 25 classes revealed good value, and I noticed they frequently offer promotions, so keep an eye out for deals that fit your schedule. Overall, Lab Studios’ barre classes stand out for their community feel, instructor support, and balanced workouts, making them a great option for anyone looking to improve core strength, endurance, and posture in Singapore.
