Is Premium Economy Worth it?

First time flying with EVA Air from Singapore to Toronto, with a 4-hour flight to Taipei, a 2-hour layover, and then the long 14-hour journey to Toronto.

I really enjoyed the entire experience. The aircraft was clean, and the cabin crew were very attentive.

I decided to splurge on Premium Economy, knowing it was such a long flight, and I'm so glad I did. It cost me around S$2.2k in total, and the extra legroom made a huge difference to my comfort.

The airline provided an amenity kit, slippers and headphones. There was even complimentary Wi-Fi on board—just scan the QR code and you're connected.

On my return flight, I was lucky enough to be assigned a first-row Premium Economy seat, and it was even better. The seat came with an extendable calf rest, which made a huge difference. The support made sleeping so much more comfortable.

If you're wondering whether Premium Economy is worth it, I'd definitely say yes for a long-haul flight. The extra space and comfort made the journey much more enjoyable, and I'd happily book it again.

... Read moreFlying long haul can be challenging, especially on routes as extensive as Singapore to Toronto via Taipei. Over the years, I've learned that investing in comfort pays off immensely for such trips. Premium Economy cabins, like those on EVA Air, offer a significant upgrade from standard economy seats without the full cost of business class. For me, the extra legroom and features such as an extendable calf rest made a noticeable difference in reducing fatigue and improving sleep quality during the 14-hour flight. What also stood out was the thoughtful amenity kit, including toiletries, slippers, and headphones — small touches that contribute to a better overall experience. Additionally, having complimentary Wi-Fi onboard allowed me to stay connected and entertained, which is a rare perk in this cabin class and adds value beyond just seating comfort. From personal experience and many travel forums, passengers consistently note that Premium Economy is particularly beneficial for long flights where comfort affects arrival energy and health significantly. If you’re considering a similar journey, budgeting a bit more for Premium Economy can transform the flying experience, making the journey less tiring and more enjoyable. This is especially true if you get lucky with a first-row seat, which tends to offer extra legroom and individual support features. When weighing the cost against benefits, consider the length of your flight, your tolerance for cramped seating, and your need for rest on arrival. Many frequent flyers I know swear by Premium Economy on long-haul trips then recommend it to others. It might be a worthwhile splurge for you too, helping you arrive refreshed and ready to tackle your destination.
