Stop sending AI designs for quotes!
From my experience working with custom apparel manufacturers, rushing to get quotes by sending AI-generated designs without proper details often leads to confusion and inaccurate pricing. Manufacturers don't just price based on an image or a general GSM number—they need specific fabric information such as yarn type, weave, and finishing to give a reliable quote. For example, two cotton fabrics both listed as 250 GSM can feel and behave very differently depending on these factors. Also, knowing your brand's identity—whether you're building streetwear or lifestyle apparel—helps manufacturers recommend the right materials and fits. Streetwear often requires heavier fabrics for structure and durability, while lifestyle brands might prefer lighter, breathable fabrics with minimalist designs. This directly affects the production process and costs. It’s also crucial to confirm the manufacturer’s minimum order quantity (MOQ) early on. Many factories set MOQs like 100 pieces for t-shirts or 50 for hoodies. If your order size doesn't meet this, the pricing and lead times will differ significantly, and sometimes production isn’t feasible. Having accurate measurements, mockups, and fabric ideas ready before reaching out saves time and provides the manufacturer with the information needed to assist you better. In addition, discussing printing methods and potential wash effects upfront can prevent surprises during sampling and production. In short, treating your initial communication with manufacturers as a collaborative process rather than a quick request for a price based solely on AI-generated designs improves your chances of getting quality products and fair prices. It’s a learning curve, but sharing your brand vision, fabric preferences, and production constraints makes the journey smoother and ultimately more successful.
