"Sutra, the smell" of Sri Lanka, negotiated a "cliff door" return to Thailand first because at the age of 51, health began to regress, near disengagement - the Prime Minister ordered the completion of the mission.

On October 28, 2025, the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment (T.C.) revealed the progress of the request to bring back the elephant, one of the key elephants that the Queen of the Thousand Year Royal gave to the former President of Sri Lanka in Thailand.

According to Mr. Sucha, he is currently preparing to negotiate with the Sri Lankan government with the goal of bringing back the "cliff door" because it is more than 51 years old, health is weakening and nearing the end of the religious service.

On October 27, the former Thai ambassador to Colombo was invited to discuss the course of the talks, in which the former ambassador provided information that the two ropes of elephants, the "Pha Gate" and the "Phi Srinong," were given to the female president of Sri Lanka and had a good relationship with the royal family at the time, and the elephants were taken to important temples in Sri Lanka for use in the Phra Chong Parade, because most Sri Lankan elephants had no tusks and Thai elephants had beautiful tusks.

Mr Suchang said that this negotiation will be accompanied by a joint panel of experts, including national veterinarians, resource undersecretary and director general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Species, to conduct a thorough examination of elephant health and provide scientific reports on age and physical condition for rational negotiation.

"If an old elephant is found to be active soon, such as a cliff door that is over 50 years old, we will honestly ask him back, because it is time to disengage, not to use it hard anymore," Mr. Suchang said.

The deputy prime minister acknowledged that it was not easy to negotiate with the Sri Lankan government because it still wanted to use elephants in religious ceremonies, but insisted that it would take the right approach, explained on scientific and merciful grounds, so that Sri Lanka would not feel blamed or devalued, and revealed that the prime minister had given a clear policy of "do whatever it takes to bring back Thai elephants, so that Thai people are comfortable and confident that our elephants are not being tortured."

Mr. Suchang is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka early this November, with a successful coordination with the Thai Embassy in Colombo, and a joint meeting will be held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Under-Secretary-General of Resources, the Director-General of the National Park Service and the former ambassador to finalize the final negotiations on October 28 at 1: 00 p.m.

Mr. Sucha concludes that this mission will begin by first bringing back the oldest elephant to rest with dignity and in proper care, asking all Thai citizens to wait for the outcome of this negotiation with mutual hope and encouragement.

"This is not just about bringing the elephant home, it is about restoring dignity to the animals of Thailand," Mr. Suchang reiterated in a confident tone.
