One of the important treatments for this disease is blood transfusions, whether whole blood, fresh plasma, platelet rich plasma (PRP) or platelet concentrate. Admin wants to share the experience of collecting elephant blood to take a little blood transfusion for the sick elephant to see more. 😇

1️⃣, we will transfuse elephants in case of sick elephants with blood values such as erythrocytes, platelets, abnormal blood proteins, which are mostly lower than normal, so they need to be added.

2️⃣ The "blood compatibility" or blood compatibility between the giver and the recipient must be checked first every time to prevent the occurrence of adverse blood transfusion side effects.

3️⃣ the donor and donor must qualify:

- Compulsory control to collect blood for more than 1 hour at a time.

- Between 20 and 50 years old, weighing 3,000 kg or more.

- The health assessed by the veterinarian is complete. Strong.

- Not pregnant, not raising a child, not falling for it.

4️⃣ to collect blood, usually 20 bags per rope, a quantity of 9 liters, which is considered safe. It does not harm the donor elephant that is qualified under Article 3. ⬆️

5️⃣ After donation, elephants are recommended to eat plenty of water, eat full food, and rest from hard labor for about 1-2 days. Blood can be redonated every 6 months.

6️⃣ Since Lampang Elephant Hospital has been collecting elephant blood from donors, there have been no complications / side effects caused by elephant blood donation. ✳️✳️✳️

In the past, if it is a case in Lampang, we often use the donor service from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center Lampang. The Thai Elephant Conservation Center Lampang has a number of strong uncles. However, during the Chukchum case, finding a donor is not easy either. 🥹 The Krabi is even more difficult because we have to go out and obtain donations from elephants outside the hospital.
