What I Made 🆚 How I Styled It #ZaysLooks

I turned a camouflage print t-shirt into a matching skirt to create a full set. It was the perfect touch for both looks, and I love how I can adjust the skirt length to switch up the silhouette.

Look 1️⃣

For styling, I paired a camo T-shirt with a matching camo skirt that I made from another T-shirt, and added snake-skin, over-the-knee platform boots. I layered a handmade piece I got in Brazil over the T-shirt to bring texture and a reimagined take on camouflage. To complete the look, I added a snake-skin headband, silver studded earrings, silver ear cuffs, assorted beaded bracelets, a green leather handmade watch I bought in Colombia, and a green puffer top-handle bag.

Look 2️⃣

For this look, I styled a camo T-shirt tucked into a matching camo skirt—also made from a T-shirt—and paired it with leopard print knee-high boots. I layered the same handmade piece from Brazil around my neck and cinched my waist with a brown leather belt featuring silver and bronze detailing, creating a fresh silhouette. To finish the look, I wore a green suede hat, used the sleeve of one of the camo shirts as a headband, and added silver studded earrings, silver ear cuffs, the handmade watch from Colombia, and a brown circular leather top-handle bag.

... Read moreTransforming basic pieces into personalized fashion staples is a rewarding way to express creativity and sustainability in style. When I created a matching skirt from a camouflage print t-shirt, it not only extended the life of a single item but opened up endless styling possibilities. Adjusting the skirt length is a clever way to alter the silhouette, allowing for versatility that suits different occasions or moods. Pairing such DIY pieces with textured accessories — like the handmade piece from Brazil and unique boots — elevates the entire look. Snake-skin and leopard print boots add an edgy, contrasting vibe to the camouflage, which normally leans toward utilitarian aesthetics. Accessories like silver studded earrings, ear cuffs, and beaded bracelets inject personality and shine, balancing rugged and refined elements. Incorporating cultural treasures such as the handmade watch from Colombia and a leather belt from a thrift shop enriches the story behind the outfit, blending travel memories with sustainable fashion. Using scarves or sleeves as headbands is a creative upcycling idea that pulls the look together while staying true to a DIY spirit. For anyone interested in diving into DIY fashion, I recommend sourcing materials from discount stores or thrift shops to reduce waste and cost. Start small by altering existing clothes, and layer with bold accessories to highlight your unique style. Accessories don’t just complement; they transform pieces, making the ordinary extraordinary. Overall, this experience shows that DIY fashion is not only about making something yourself but styling it in ways that reflect your individual personality and aesthetic. Embrace the challenge of creating and styling your own pieces—it’s both empowering and fun!
