「将軍山古墳って実際どんな感じ？」が気になって行ってみたら、想像以上に“古墳の中に入って学べる”体験型で面白かったです。将軍山古墳展示館は、さきたま古墳公園の散策とセットにすると満足度が上がります。 まず良かったのは、入口から世界観が作られているところ。馬に乗った武士像が立っていて、いきなり古代の物語に引き込まれる感じがします。建物はモダンな外観で、緑の屋根や埴輪のイラストがある扉が目印。公園の緑にもなじんでいて、写真を撮るのも楽しいポイントでした。 館内は“展示を見る”だけでなく、“古墳の構造を理解する”のに向いています。土の層（後円部の土層断面など）をパネルで追えるので、古墳がどう積み上げられているのかがイメージしやすいです。発掘調査の写真や、1894年に出土した遺物の復元に関する展示もあって、研究の積み重ねが見えるのも印象的でした。 埴輪展示は種類が多くて見応えがあります。朝顔型埴輪、円筒埴輪、盾持人埴輪、靭形埴輪などが並び、しかも「墳丘にどう配置されていたか」まで配列図で示されているので、当時の風景を想像しながら見られました。馬具を付けた馬の展示もあり、古墳時代の権力や儀礼の雰囲気が伝わってきます。 個人的に一番グッときたのは、2階の横穴式石室の復元。石室の空間に入ると音が吸い込まれるように静かで、展示の照明も落ち着いていて、短い時間でも“別世界”に切り替わる感覚がありました。副葬品が置かれた様子や木棺の再現もあり、ただの模型ではなく「埋葬の場」を立体的に理解できます。 行く前の注意点としては、敷地が広いので案内板を確認しつつ早めに動くのがおすすめです（私は駐車場を通り過ぎて少し迷いました）。観覧は9:00〜、最終入館に余裕をもって回ると展示を落ち着いて見られます。 そして地味に助かるのが、埼玉県立さきたま史跡の博物館と将軍山古墳展示館が“どちらかで観覧料を払うと両方楽しめる”点。将軍山古墳の理解を深めたいなら、博物館→展示館（またはその逆）でセット見学がいちばんおすすめです。
