Build with me: day 1 .. fail
I’m building a smart display app for myself because I own way too many perfumes and still somehow reach for the same few. I want something that remembers my collection, helps me rediscover what I already own, and tells me what to wear or layer based on the moment. So I’m building it. ✨

Embarking on the development of a smart display app for my perfume collection has been both exciting and challenging. I realized that despite owning numerous perfumes, I kept reaching for just a few favorites, which motivated me to create a tool that could truly showcase and manage my entire collection. On day one, I started by listing some of my treasured scents, including Lumiere, Bois Velvet, Blanc Doree, and Rose, aiming to build a system that recognizes each unique fragrance by name and attributes. This is crucial because a well-organized app can suggest layering options and suitable perfumes based on the day’s mood or event, similar to having a personal fragrance stylist. One important lesson from this early stage is the complexity of capturing the nuances of scent profiles digitally. Fragrances have notes that unfold over time, such as top, middle, and base notes, influencing how they blend or layer. I’m working on incorporating AI elements to analyze these characteristics and provide tailored recommendations, which aligns closely with the #PerfumeAI trend. By sharing this journey publicly, I hope to connect with fellow perfume collectors and enthusiasts who face similar challenges managing extensive fragrance wardrobes. Building in public helps gather feedback and ideas that might improve functionality and user experience. If you’re also passionate about fragrances or tech projects that enhance personal hobbies, stay tuned for updates. I’ll be exploring how to integrate scent descriptions, user preferences, and smart notifications to remind me when to use or rotate perfumes, encouraging me to rediscover less-used favorites rather than defaulting to the same scents. This blend of fragrance passion and technology could transform how collectors experience their perfumes daily, making scent selection an enjoyable and informed process.
