Ready to get all around sexy and strong legs? Add these FOUR exercises into your leg day!
PSA: a friendly reminder that you DO NOT need to be in the gym doing 8-12 exercises. The quality of your lift and how you perform those few exercises will always take you farther than doing a ton of exercises with crappy form!!
1) Tempo Squats: 4 sets of 8-10 reps. For tempo squats, you are taking 4 seconds to get down and 4 seconds to get up. I like to keep these a little bit lighter when it comes to the weight just because you are adding a lot of time under tension. You also have the choice to add a pause at the bottom, meaning, when you are at the bottom of your squat, hold it for about 3-5 seconds before driving yourself back up to the top.
2) Kettlebell Swings: 4 sets of 15! Not only is the kettlebell swing a great exercise your your posterior side but it also adds in a sense of cardio, allowing your heart rate to rise through a fast movement. Make sure you are hinging at the hips throughout this movement and powering up through your hips and squeezing your glutes for a split second at the top.
3) Romanian Deadlift: 3 sets of 12 reps! The holy grail of hamstrings and an exercise you should not be skipping because it also helps get that booty plump! Hinging back with your hips and keeping the bar close to your legs while also keeping your chin tucked to ensure good form!
4) Hip Thrust: 4 sets of 12 reps! You can't dare leave out the hip thrust! You can perform this exercise with a variety of weights from a kettlebell, dumbbell, or barbell! I like to set my shoulder blades up on either a box or a bench to perform this exercise!
These 4 exercises can be your whole workout! Take time on them, focus on your mind to muscle connection, and as always, focus on the quality of your lifts!
... Read moreOkay, fitness fam! If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for the most effective moves to sculpt those sexy, strong legs. While my original post covered the essentials, I really want to dive deeper into why these four exercises are absolute game-changers for achieving your leg goals. It’s not just about hitting reps; it’s about mastering the movement and feeling that intense muscle connection!
Let's talk more about Tempo Squats. The 4-second down, 4-second up cadence isn't just a challenge—it's a secret weapon for muscle growth. This extended time under tension forces your muscles to work harder throughout the entire range of motion, engaging more fibers and preventing momentum from taking over. For truly sexy strong legs, this means better quad and glute development. I find keeping my core super tight and pushing through my heels on the way up helps me maintain perfect form. If you're struggling, lighten the weight slightly; quality over quantity always wins!
Next, Kettlebell Swings are incredibly powerful for your posterior chain and for getting those sexy hamstrings and glutes firing. Many people mistakenly squat this movement, but it's all about the hip hinge – a powerful snap forward, not a deep knee bend. Imagine driving your hips through, squeezing your glutes hard at the top like you're trying to crush something between them! This explosive action not only builds incredible power but also contributes to that defined look.
The Romanian Deadlift (RDL) is truly the holy grail for sexy hamstrings. This isn't a squat; it's a hinge at the hips. Picture someone pulling your hips back with a rope, and your torso follows, almost parallel to the floor, with a slight bend in your knees. The stretch should be felt deeply in your hamstrings, not your lower back. Keep the bar (or dumbbells) glued to your legs as you lower, ensuring you're working the right muscles. This movement is incredible for length and definition in the back of your thighs.
Finally, Hip Thrusts are indispensable for building round, firm glutes, contributing significantly to your sexy strong legs aesthetic. Set your shoulder blades firmly on a bench or box, drive through your heels, and push your hips as high as possible, squeezing your glutes intensely at the top. Focus on creating a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the peak of the movement. This direct glute activation is key for that lifted, sculpted look.
And for my friends asking about minimal equipment options: these exercises are still doable! Bodyweight tempo squats, dumbbell RDLs, or even weighted hip thrusts using just a heavy backpack can get the job done. The core principles of form and muscle engagement remain, regardless of your gear. Give these a try, focus on that mind-muscle connection, and you'll be well on your way to those incredible leg gains!
