Have you read The Butcher and the Wren?

I am so so excited!!

I have been a listener to Morbid podcast for a few years, and I absolutely love those girls! As a book lover, I naturally freaked out when I first heard talk of Alaina’s “The Butcher and the Wren”. I won’t lie, I’ve been slacking and I haven’t read the first book yet. I preordered The Butcher Game, and I told myself that I’m going to read both books once it arrives… AND ITS HERE!!!

If you’re a true crime lover, I HIGHLY recommend giving Morbid a listen!

I will be back with reviews 🫡

... Read moreI'm absolutely buzzing with excitement, and I just had to share! For ages, I've been a huge fan of true crime, and like many of you, I've been hooked on the incredible Morbid podcast. Alaina Urquhart, one of the brilliant hosts, has truly blown me away with her venture into fiction, and I’m so ready to dive into her world. If you're searching for your next gripping read, especially if you love a good serial killer thriller, you absolutely need to check out her books! Her debut novel, 'The Butcher and the Wren,' introduced us to the unforgettable Dr. Wren Muller, a medical examiner entangled in a terrifying hunt for a serial killer in the atmospheric Louisiana bayou. Trust me, the way Alaina weaves her true crime knowledge into a fictional narrative is just masterful. It adds such a raw, authentic edge to the suspense. The chilling cover of 'The Butcher and the Wren' with its distinct eye design really sets the tone for the dark journey within. I remember seeing it everywhere and just knowing I had to get my hands on it. And now, the highly anticipated sequel, 'The Butcher Game,' has just arrived in my hands! I pre-ordered it months ago, and seeing that evocative cover with the striking red leaf and hints of blood just makes me want to drop everything and read. This second installment promises to pull us back into Dr. Wren Muller's continuing story, facing new horrors and unraveling deeper mysteries. For those who loved the first book and are invested in Wren's character, 'The Butcher Game' is a must-read. It’s not just a standalone; it’s a brilliant expansion of a truly compelling series. What makes Alaina Urquhart's books so special, beyond her incredible storytelling, is her background with the Morbid podcast. If you’re a listener, you already know her engaging style and deep understanding of forensic details and criminal psychology. She brings that same meticulous research and passion to her fiction, making the thrillers feel incredibly real and impactful. It’s like getting a fictionalized true crime case, but with all the intensity and character development you crave in a novel. The podcast has always been a go-to for me, and knowing the author shares that same fascination with the darker side of humanity makes her books even more compelling. If you’re new to Alaina’s work, I can’t recommend starting with 'The Butcher and the Wren' enough. You’ll be immediately drawn into the suspense and the intricate character of Dr. Wren Muller. Then, you can seamlessly transition into 'The Butcher Game' to continue the chilling adventure. These aren't just books; they're an experience, especially for anyone who appreciates thoughtful, well-researched thrillers. I’ve seen so much buzz on BookTok and various book clubs about these titles, and it’s for good reason! They genuinely deliver on the promise of a captivating, suspenseful read. I'm about to disappear into these pages, and I'll definitely be back to share my full thoughts and reviews. Have you read 'The Butcher and the Wren' yet? Or are you eagerly awaiting 'The Butcher Game' like I was? Let me know your thoughts and what other Alaina Urquhart books or similar thriller recommendations you have!
