Pursuing a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) often involves balancing coursework with internships, which provide critical real-world exposure. Internships, whether during undergrad or grad school, can open doors to economic consulting roles within public health, offering a unique blend of data analysis and policy insight that enhances one’s skill set. For international students, the job search can be particularly challenging due to visa regulations and limited networks. My experience has taught me the importance of leveraging university career resources, connecting with alumni, and staying active in professional public health forums. Developing specialized skills through certifications or technical workshops also increases employability. Economic consulting in public health involves using economic theories and models to assess healthcare policies, cost-effectiveness, and resource allocation. This niche area requires strong analytical abilities, which can be honed through internships and targeted coursework. Job searching, especially as an international student, benefits greatly from early preparation, understanding employer requirements, and showcasing both academic achievements and relevant experience.
