How I’m still clearing my Oily Acne Scarred Skin

Month 2 acne update ✨

If you saw my last post, you know I’ve been battling acne since literally 5th grade. Moving to Utah definitely did not help my skin. The dry air and constant sun had my barrier STRUGGLING and DAMAGED.

Two months into simplifying my routine and here’s what I’m noticing:

• Fewer painful breakouts

• Old scars are healing (so slow 😭) but healing

• Texture is smoother (even if I still get flare-ups like that one 🙄)

What I changed from last month-

Added in Cabtreo- Dr prescribed acne cream

🔥This burnsssssss🔥

My first week into using it, it completely burned and scabbed my skin. I went to work looking red 🫩

I had to un-retire my healing ointment to get things calm again. 🥲

Increased my lymphatic drainage massages and started facial yoga

Moisturizing more than I think I need. Using two lipbalms. (Homemade beeswax to seal) Lanolips for overall hydration. My lips are like sand with this wind. They’re blowing away. 😂

Still on the sunscreen hunt 😭 but I have a promising one 👀

My skin tone + acne-prone skin = picky af

Biggest lesson so far.

Barrier repair > chasing clear skin fast

Slow progress is still progress 🤍

Saving this for my Month 3 update—stay tuned.

... Read moreLiving with oily, acne-prone, and scarred skin can be a long and frustrating process, but patience and consistency are key to seeing improvement. Over the past two months, simplifying my skincare routine has been a game-changer for my skin. Transitioning to a gentle cleanser like CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam helped maintain my skin barrier without stripping moisture, which is crucial in dry climates like Utah where harsh air can worsen skin damage. Introducing Cabtreo, a prescription acne cream, was initially challenging due to its intense burning sensation and scabbing effect. During this initial phase, I learned the importance of supporting my skin with healing ointments, such as CeraVe Healing Ointment, to soothe inflammation and repair the damaged barrier. This step helped me avoid over-drying and further irritation. Additionally, I incorporated lymphatic drainage massages and facial yoga routines to improve circulation and lymph flow in my face, which helped reduce puffiness and promote skin healing. These techniques felt relaxing and became a part of my self-care routine. Hydration was another significant focus. I moisturized more often and used two types of lip balms, including a homemade beeswax sealant and Lanolips, to combat the harsh wind that left my lips feeling cracked and dry. This extra care in hydration didn’t just benefit my lips but also helped balance my oily skin by preventing the skin from overproducing oils due to dryness. Although I am still in search of the perfect sunscreen that complements my skin tone and acne-prone skin, I remain hopeful with some promising options. Finding a non-comedogenic sunscreen is essential to protect my skin without causing more breakouts. My biggest takeaway is that repairing the skin barrier is far more important than rushing to clear acne. Slow, steady progress might be frustratingly gradual, but consistent care focused on strengthening the skin’s natural defenses leads to lasting healing. For anyone struggling with similar issues, embracing this mindset can help reduce anxiety around acne treatments and foster healthier skin in the long run. Remember, each individual’s skin is unique, so it’s crucial to listen to your skin’s needs, avoid harsh over-treatments, and consult with dermatologists when necessary. This journey isn’t just about achieving clear skin fast but about nurturing and restoring your skin’s health over time.

use the HaruHaru wonder black rice airlift sundcreen, its really good and doesnt feel greasy or overly oily on oily skin and leaves a velvety matte finish. And btw for cleansing make sure when cleansing to use less of the foam cleanser and cleanse with lighter and less pressured motions.Gentle cleansing matters because scrubbing or using too much pressure can irritate the skin barrier and make skin feel oilier or more sensitive.Cleansers don’t need force to work—just gentle application.(this is a random tip I thought would be good to give 😭i figured it out the hard way with oily skin)
