I had a GREAT trip with my husband and friends in Switzerland, and we even went to Seealpsee Lake!
We hiked all the way up to there (even though I struggled a lot 😅), and I was amazed at how beautiful this lake was!!
The guys got in the water, and I decided, "Why not?" and slipped into the lake!! IT WAS SO COLD 🥶 but it felt good to my leg muscles for sure 🤣. Can't wait to see what's next.
... Read moreAfter my incredible hike to Seealpsee Lake, I can truly say that Switzerland's lakes and mountains are something everyone needs to experience. My trip really highlighted how diverse and accessible the country's natural beauty is, even if you're exploring areas near cities like Zurich. While Seealpsee offers a serene, almost fairy-tale escape, the whole country bursts with opportunities for amazing outdoor adventures.
One thing I learned from my Seealpsee adventure is that preparation is key, especially when tackling those beautiful but challenging mountain trails. If you're planning your own Swiss nature getaway, whether it's around Zurich or deeper into the Alps, here are a few things I'd recommend. First, always check the weather! Mountain conditions can change rapidly. For a hike like Seealpsee, comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes are a must – my legs were definitely feeling it, but good footwear made a huge difference. Don't forget layers; even on a sunny day, it can get chilly at higher altitudes or after a refreshing dip in a cold lake!
What makes Swiss nature so special, to me, is the combination of pristine lakes, towering peaks, and charming villages nestled in between. You don't have to be an extreme hiker to enjoy it. There are countless trails for all levels, from leisurely lakeside strolls to more strenuous climbs like the one to Seealpsee. I remember looking at the stunning reflection of the mountains in Seealpsee Lake, just like in a postcard, and feeling incredibly grateful for the experience. It really is a picture-perfect scene.
If you're wondering how to find your own 'Seealpsee' experience, even if your base is more urban like Zurich, remember that public transport in Switzerland is fantastic. You can often reach stunning natural spots by train or bus, followed by a hike. For instance, while Seealpsee is in the Appenzell region, many beautiful lakes and mountain views are easily reachable from major cities. Think about Lake Lucerne or Lake Geneva, which offer incredible views and plenty of activities. Even around Zurich, you'll find lovely hikes and nature escapes just a short trip away.
My cold dip in Seealpsee was definitely a highlight – a truly invigorating experience that made me feel so connected to nature. It might sound crazy, but if you get the chance and the water isn't too frigid, I highly recommend it! Just be ready for the chill! Whether it's a dip, a challenging hike, or simply soaking in the incredible 'Switzerland' scenery that surrounds you with its lush green mountains under a partly cloudy sky, a trip to the Swiss lakes and mountains promises unforgettable memories. The sheer beauty of the landscapes, from the calm waters reflecting the sky to the majestic peaks, is something you carry with you long after you've left.
