Red Flags I Ignore Every Shift as an RN in OR

No break assigned? Cool, I didn’t need food anyway.

Surgeon already yelling before 7 a.m.? Classic.

Three add-on cases and no extra help?

Missing half the supplies? I’ll “make it work.”

My bladder? Forgotten. My Sharpie? Guarded with my life.

Every day I tell myself I’ll advocate for rest… and then I’m wrist-deep in back-to-back cases, telling anesthesia we’re “ready when you are."

Although we have super busy days like this, and it can be draining...these days are far and few between! These are the top red flags and biggest struggles I deal with in the OR, but go to my next post for all the green flags of OR Nursing! I promise there are a lot more green than red!
