Green Flags in the OR: OR Nurse Edition
It doesn’t take much to make an OR shift run smoother and when it does, you feel it. These are the green flags that remind me why I love this job (even on the chaotic days):
1. A circulator who anticipates your needs.
If I’m reaching for something and it’s already on the field? Say less. Circulators who are locked in and two steps ahead make every case flow better. No scrambling, no passive-aggressive sighing just teamwork.
2. A scrub tech who actually helps with counts.
We’ve all worked with the ones who stare into space during counts like it’s not their problem. A tech who’s focused, quick, and communicates clearly? Gold. You move faster and safer.
3. A surgeon who treats the team with respect.
They don’t have to be overly nice just normal, professional, and not yelling before we even start skin prep. A little “thanks” or “nice job” goes a long way when you're deep in your fourth case of the day.
4. On-time starts and clean turnovers.
If the room’s flipped, supplies are stocked, and everyone shows up on time? Beautiful. Rare. It’s like spotting a unicorn in the wild. But when it happens? Chef’s kiss.
5. That one anesthesiologist who actually talks to you.
The one who lets you know what's going on, updates you during induction, and isn’t a mystery in the corner? We love you. You make the room feel like a team, not a collection of strangers working in silence.

As someone who’s been in the OR, I totally agree! A good team makes all the difference. So much respect for what you do! 💪
