Learning boxing has taught me so much. Never looking back. I am also able to teach people who come to me for tips. Wanted to learn boxing but most boxing gyms are expensive so I had no choice because I loved it and I definitely think I evolved over the years. Still learning!
When I first started boxing, it wasn't about competitive fights or fancy gyms; it was about finding something that resonated with me. I quickly realized that most boxing gyms were expensive, which meant I had to become my own coach. This self-taught journey, fueled by a lot of research, has been an incredible evolution, not just for my body but for my entire mindset. My body literally underwent a transformation. Initially, I found myself trying to always throw power shots, without much thought for technique, and honestly, with no real footwork. My conditioning wasn't where it needed to be, and I often felt sluggish. But sticking with it, day after day, changed everything. Boxing started to keep me in shape in a way no other exercise ever did. My stamina skyrocketed, my muscles became more defined, and my overall strength increased significantly. I went from having no jab to understanding its importance, and my footwork started to come in, making me feel so much more agile and balanced. It's a full-body workout that sculpts every part of you, from your core to your shoulders, and the mental engagement needed keeps you constantly active. Beyond the physical, the mental and emotional benefits have been profound. Boxing has made me stronger mentally, physically, and emotionally. The discipline required to consistently train, even when you're self-taught, carries over into other areas of life. There's a certain focus you develop when you're working on defense and trying to find your rhythm, which is incredibly meditative. I remember those early days trying to keep my chin up (SMH!), and how learning from those mistakes built resilience. Music helped me immensely in finding my pace during pad work and shadowboxing, turning each session into a flow state. This journey has been about building a solid foundation from scratch. It's a continuous process of learning and refining. Even now, in 2024, I'm sharper and more disciplined, but still learning! Boxing is a sport that demands constant evolution. It has taught me the value of research, the joy of mastering new skills, and the quiet confidence that comes from pushing your own limits. If you're looking for an activity that offers a complete body transformation, enhances your mental fortitude, and adds an incredible sense of discipline to your life, I wholeheartedly recommend giving boxing a try. It's truly changed my life for the better, and I have so much respect for the sport and what it can do for you.
