New Plant Baby & PLANT TIP 🫶

I love plants and thought that I would elevate my space and add another. I bought a snake plant which is pretty easy to maintain. I’ve had terrible luck with plants over the years and almost wanted to get fake plants but I c don’t want to! Here’s a tip I leaned today about plant.

I leaned what to do if your plant soil gets molded:

🍋Aerate the soil and let it dry out, preferably outside but not too long in direct sun as to burn the leaves.

🍋If mushrooms bloom: add a cap full of hydrogen peroxide to a gallon of water and water the plant as regular.

🍋If the plant doesn’t look like it’s doing well- change the soil.

... Read moreHey plant parents! I totally get the panic when you spot mold on your beloved snake plant soil. After my own plant struggles (you know, those days when you almost give up on real plants!), I've learned a ton about keeping these beauties happy and mold-free. My journey started at places like United Garden Center, where I picked up my latest plant baby and got some initial advice. So, why does mold appear in the first place? Usually, it's a sign of overwatering or poor drainage. That damp, humid environment is a perfect breeding ground for fungi, especially if your soil is rich in organic matter. Sometimes, it's just harmless saprophytic fungi breaking down organic material, but it's still a sign to adjust your care routine. Beyond just treating the mold, preventing it is key! Here's what I've found really helps: Water Wisely: Snake plants are succulents, they absolutely hate soggy feet! I always let the soil dry out completely between waterings – and I mean bone dry. Stick your finger about two inches deep; if it's dry, then it's time for a drink. In winter, I water even less. Proper Potting: Make sure your pot has drainage holes. Non-negotiable! I also use a well-draining soil mix, often adding perlite or sand to my regular potting mix to improve aeration. Good Airflow: A little circulation goes a long way. If your plant is tucked away in a corner with no air movement, mold is more likely to appear. Make sure it gets some fresh air, but avoid cold drafts. Cleanliness: Regularly remove any fallen leaves or debris from the soil surface. These can decompose and become food for mold. And for those of you wondering about general snake plant care, they're truly one of the easiest! They love bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions, making them super versatile for any space. What I love most is how they purify the air, adding a little joy and freshness to my home. While they don't 'remove' mold from your house, they certainly help improve overall air quality. It’s all about finding that balance to keep your snake plant thriving, vibrant, and a wonderful addition to your indoor garden. These tips have really helped me turn my brown thumb into a green one!
