Where to stay in Baton Rouge

During our recent Thanksgiving trip to Baton Rouge, we had the pleasure of staying at the Baton Rouge Marriott.

Traditionally more of a business hotel, I was pleasantly surprised at the accommodations for stays that do not normally fall into this category.

The staff was kind and helpful, the hotel was easy to access and clearly visible from the interstate. The hotel is also close to many food establishments including local favorites: Off the Hook, Fiery Crab, Albasha, Another Broken Egg, Coffee Call and more.

Shopping was also no issue as Albertsons, Walmart, Whole Foods were close by for groceries and snacks while, Citi Place and Town Center at Cedar Lodge were less than 5 minutes away.

The College Drive Corridor of the city is truly a gem and a wonderful place to stay if you’re visiting Baton Rouge.

... Read moreMy recent stay at the Baton Rouge Marriott truly highlighted why the College Drive Corridor is such a fantastic area to consider when visiting. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the easy access from the interstate and how visible it was, making navigation a breeze. While it's often seen as a business hotel – and indeed, the business center with its meeting rooms looked very professional – it proved to be incredibly accommodating for a leisure traveler like myself. The spacious lobby lounge, comfortable rooms with neatly made beds, and even the River Kitchen and Bar Rouge, with its inviting atmosphere, made it feel like a true home away from home. But Baton Rouge offers so much more, and choosing the 'best' place to stay really depends on what you're looking for! If you're wondering about the best area to stay in Baton Rouge beyond College Drive, here are a few thoughts from my experience and what I've learned: Downtown Baton Rouge: For those who love history, nightlife, and walking to attractions, downtown Baton Rouge is a vibrant choice. You'll find the State Capitol, LSU Museum of Art, and plenty of unique restaurants and bars within easy reach. Hotels like The Watermark Baton Rouge, Autograph Collection, or the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center offer a more upscale, historic feel often with river views. It's perfect if you want to be in the heart of the action and immerse yourself in the city's culture. Near Louisiana State University (LSU): If you're visiting for an LSU game, touring the campus, or have family attending, staying near the university is ideal. This area has a lively, collegiate atmosphere with plenty of casual dining options and sports bars. You might find more budget-friendly options here, alongside some well-known chains. It's often bustling, especially on game days! Perkins Rowe/Bocage area: If upscale shopping, trendy restaurants, and a more modern, pedestrian-friendly environment are your priorities, look into the Perkins Rowe or Bocage area. It's a bit further from downtown but offers a fantastic array of amenities, including a cinema and boutique shops. Hotels here might include the Hyatt Place Baton Rouge/Acadian Centre, providing a comfortable and convenient base for exploring this chic part of town. When considering Baton Rouge lodging, think about your priorities. Are you looking for a full-service hotel with amenities like the River Kitchen & Bar, a pool, and a well-equipped business center, like the Marriott? Or perhaps a boutique hotel downtown? Many hotels in Baton Rouge Louisiana, from familiar chains to independent gems, cater to different budgets and travel styles. Always check recent reviews for insights into specific hotel experiences regarding staff, cleanliness, and amenities. No matter where you choose, Baton Rouge is a city with a warm welcome, delicious food (like Off the Hook, Fiery Crab, Albasha, Coffee Call, and Another Broken Egg that I mentioned earlier!), and plenty to explore. Happy planning for your next trip!
