Hidden GEM in the Oregon Coast

Take a girls trip to the Oregon coast with your besties! Explore the beauty of Lincoln City, a hidden gem that is a wonderful place to explore with your friends-any time of year.

Logistics and planning:

Fly into Portland and drive 2 hours to Lincoln City

1. Book a cozy rental property in advance (preferably one with a view of the ocean) with amenities you need like dog friendly or with a hot tub.

2. Cozy up and relax: often on trips we don't take enough time to unwind. Cook good meals with your girlies and bring a good book to read!

3. Visit Fogarty Creek Beach: Free parking on the east side of Hwy 101, then walk west under the bridge to access beach area. Great place to walk around with your dogs and take in the ocean waves.

4. Take the scenic route: drive HWY 101 north and take in the views!

... Read moreSo, you're planning a girls' getaway to Lincoln City and want to go beyond the typical beach strolls? You've come to the right place! My recent trip proved that this Oregon Coast gem is packed with unique adventures that truly make for an unforgettable itinerary. Forget just visiting the usual spots – let's dive into some of the more 'weird and wonderful' things you can do to craft a truly special experience! First up, you absolutely must try your luck at finding a hand-blown glass float! Lincoln City is famous for its 'Finders Keepers' program, where volunteers hide these beautiful treasures along the 7-mile coastline. Imagine the thrill of discovering your own unique piece of art while strolling the sandy shores. It's a treasure hunt like no other, and a truly magical experience that adds an unexpected twist to your beach day. Just make sure to check the local schedule for when they're hiding them! Beyond the glass floats, the Oregon Coast's tide pools are a wonderland waiting to be explored. Grab a tide chart and head out during low tide to spots like Road's End State Recreation Site. You'll be amazed by the vibrant sea stars, colorful anemones, and scuttling crabs in their natural habitats. Remember to observe, not disturb, these incredible creatures – it's a peek into another world right on our doorstep! This is a fantastic, free activity that offers a unique perspective on marine life. While the ocean is majestic, don't forget about Devils Lake State Recreation Area. If you're looking for a change of pace from the crashing waves, you can rent kayaks or paddleboards and explore the calm waters. It’s a completely different kind of 'water adventure' and a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon, especially if you've brought your furry friends along – many rentals are super dog-friendly, just like the cozy cabin we rented! Lincoln City also boasts a fantastic array of antique shops, quirky boutiques, and local art galleries. Spend an afternoon browsing for unique souvenirs or that 'weird' piece of art you never knew you needed. This is where you can truly find those hidden gems that make your trip memorable. And for foodies, exploring the local seafood shacks and craft breweries offers a taste of the Pacific Northwest that's both authentic and delicious. Don't miss out on trying some fresh Dungeness crab or locally brewed beers! To truly make your trip unique, consider this expanded itinerary for your girls' getaway: Day 1: Arrival & Unwind. After your scenic drive down HWY 101 (the views are breathtaking, especially if you take your time!), settle into your ocean-view rental. If it's dog-friendly, let your pups stretch their legs on the beach near Fogarty Creek. Spend the evening unwinding with your girlies, cooking a delicious meal in your cozy cabin, maybe even enjoying a hot tub under the stars. That feeling of relaxing in a wood-paneled cabin with a good book is pure bliss! Day 2: Treasure Hunt & Coastal Exploration. Wake up early for a glass float hunt! Spend the morning combing the beach, then head to a tide pool spot for some marine discovery. Grab a casual lunch at a unique local eatery. In the afternoon, take a leisurely drive further north on HWY 101, stopping at viewpoints you might have missed. Day 3: Lake Fun & Local Discoveries. Head to Devils Lake for some kayaking or paddleboarding. Afterwards, explore the antique shops and galleries for some quirky finds. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a top-rated local restaurant, savoring the fresh catch. This mix ensures you capture both the relaxation and the unique adventures Lincoln City offers! Remember, the key to a truly unique Lincoln City trip is embracing both the unexpected and the opportunity to truly relax. Check the 'Finders Keepers' schedule, pack layers for the unpredictable coastal weather, and most importantly, allow yourself to unwind and discover the 'weird and wonderful' charm of this Oregon Coast gem. Happy travels, besties!
