Ingredients
• raw apple cider vinegar (with the mother) submerge all ingredients
• 1/4 cup raw honey (or more to taste, optional)
• 1 medium onion, finely chopped i used yellow and purple
• 10 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
• 1/4 cup fresh ginger, grated
• 1-2 fresh hot peppers (like jalapeño or habanero), sliced
• Zest and juice of 1 lemon
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• 1 tablespoon turmeric powder (or 2 inches fresh turmeric root, grated)
• 1 teaspoon black peppercorns (lightly crushed)
• 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
• 1 grapefruit
• 1 orange
• 1 lime
• 1 lemon
• fresh thyme
• black pepper
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
• Wash and chop all fresh ingredients (onion, garlic, ginger, horseradish, peppers, lemon). Grating helps release the active compounds for maximum potency.
2. Combine in a Jar:
• Add all the ingredients except for the honey and apple cider vinegar into a large, clean glass jar (at least 1 quart size).
3. Add Apple Cider Vinegar:
• Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ingredients, ensuring everything is fully submerged. Leave about 1 inch of space at the top.
4. Cover and Shake:
• Seal the jar tightly. If using a metal lid, place a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap between the lid and jar to prevent corrosion from the vinegar. Shake well.
5. Infuse:
• Store the jar in a cool, dark place (like a pantry) for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar daily to mix and enhance extraction.
6. Strain and Sweeten:
• After 4-6 weeks, strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar. Discard the solids.
• Stir in the raw honey to taste. Start with 1/4 cup and adjust based on your preference for sweetness.
7. Store:
• Store the fire cider in an airtight glass bottle or jar in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 6 months.
How to Use Fire Cider:
• Take 1-2 tablespoons daily as a preventive tonic.
• At the first sign of a cold, take 1 tablespoon every 3-4 hours.
• Add to hot tea, use as a salad dressing base, or drizzle on roasted veggies for a spicy kick.
